12,000 Dollars

Marty does everything he does and leaves his family alone for a few months for 12,000 dollars? Somebody familiar with Alaska want to explain to me how he can support his family. The guys in the lower 48 I can at least understand the general premise. Basically they are sitting on land that nobody else wanted at least previously to now so their cost to get a few acres was most likely next to nil. Their cost of living centers on paying property taxes, hunting supplies, clothing, and in some instances agricultural supplies. Most of them also have services they can sell or barter. I am not saying any of these guys are geniuses.

He has a summer job. His wife works. He just rich. etc. etc. Nothing hints to the fact that this is his only source of income. In fact it were, he probably wouldn't be flying a plane and driving everywhere with a snowmobile (well the plane is plausiple). Essentially he seems to be like all the guys in the show. He's not doing it to survive, but because he wants to.

yeah he says he does it because he loves it, he could probably make more money in the town where his family lives doing odd jobs (other than snowmobile maintenance....) but he likes to get away from it all for part of the year.

Marty's doing okay. He bought a plane. He bought a new HD snowmobile. He gets money from the TV people. He probably does trapping as a hobby.
