The original (pre-TV-show) DVD series

Before the BBC/RTE and indeed international TV hit phenomenon that is the “Mrs. Brown’s Boys” show we now know and love, there was THIS - the original made-for-DVD specials! From 2002-2008 it was basically a series of seven annual dvd releases (in Ireland) featuring all the main characters of “Mrs. Brown”, BUT here… the budgets and therefore production values were low… and the characters are still (very much) finding their ways (with differing actors playing some of the roles)... HOWEVER this was the nurturing ground of all for the characters and most of the primary jokes and storylines that were to become the foundation for current TV show.

I'm just discovering Mrs. Brown's Boys, and being in the US, it's hard as heck to find them. Is there any way at all to get a region free dvd set or sets of all of the shows?

Yes that's a really good concise history of things. A lot of fans of the current hit BBC/RTE TV series don't realise there was so much more that went before its incarnation.

Though in earlier episodes of this same series (and in "D'Movie" I think) Agnes does refer to having 6 kids... which I like to think refers to Simon (who has died), however in the most recent (New Years 2015/16) special - in which she recalls what her Redzer "left" her - she only refers to the existing children (Mark, Trevor, Rory, Cathy, Dermot).

Just one correction... "Sparrow's Trap" was a seperate story/novel written by Brendan O'Carroll (and partly filmed in 1998 into a movie before production was ceased mid-way) and not part of the original series of Agnes novels of "The Mammy", "The Chisellers" and "The Granny".

Am delighted it has become so popular and such a phenomenon and looking forward to where Brendan takes it all next.
