Why make a movie to humanize a sexual predator?

The lead actress was 28 when the movie was made, the actor playing her boyfriend was 23. She was portraying a 20 something molesting a student. Her character was a felon-CSC4. A person in authority having sex with someone they have authority over.

Flip the gender of the lead actors. How many people could stomach an adult man having sex with his teen student?

Silly John, don't you know older women having sex with horny teenage boys is just "empowerment" and "self-discovery"? And all those other lovely buzzwords the feminist movement loves using.

That would be rape...because only teenage guys are sexually active.

.because only teenage guys are sexually active.

well, they are more active, or else they have a stronger social and physical aspiration to be active for the sake of being active.

My post was sarcasm, in its entirety, although I'm sure you figured that.

That said, I do not believe teenage guys are any more sexually active than girls - because I'm not just talking copulation. The reason I think there's a perception young guys are more active is because it's more socially acceptable for guys to openly discuss sexual desires than women. I also believe women get scared more easily and are engrained with fear, such as teenage pregnancy or STDs, which puts them off the idea more easily. But from a desire or curiosity point of view, I do not believe there is much difference at all.

I know!! That poor little guy! All confused and vulnerable! I'll bet he wrote an emotional entry in his personal journal....complete with teardrops peppering the page! "Dear Diary, today my teacher touched me inappropriately.... :( I responded by demanding she remove her clothes and ride me into the Texas sunset."

There's nothing wrong with humanizing ANYBODY. I wish more American movies did it. The first step to committing horrible crimes against people is de-humanizing them. Ironically, that is a lot of what allows the worst sex offenders and pedophiles to commit their crimes.

Also, there are plenty of movies that humanize MURDERERS or people that commit far worse crimes than statutory rape of a teenager (played by adult actor). This crime just hits too close to home for a lot of people. Some of them are probably tempted to do it themselves and so they overreact. Methinks people like the OP doth protest a little too much about this particular subject

Finally, while people probably overestimate the harm a relationship with an older male does to teenage females, they REALLY overestimate the harm it does to males simply because they are trying to avoid the "double standard" that inconveniently really does exist between the sexes. It's hilarious to me how we have gone from Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" when I was a teenager to let's label the hot teacher a sex offender and give her 10-20 years in prison. Hot adult females seducing male teenagers actually doesn't happen that much in real life, but the media reports it EVERY TIME it does and makes a lot of movies about because it titillates a lot of people, including the hypocrites that rail loudest against it. ACTUAL pedophilia/child rape is a far worse crime, but it's not as common in the media because it's just not a "sexy" crime like sex with a "teenager" played by a good-looking twentysomething actor or actress.

Perhaps to see why it was happening? Diane was apparently having some emotional problems due to something with her mother or what not. Unfortunately, the movie doesn't delve into that.

Eric probably seized on the fact that she was emotionally unstable and exploited that to his advantage. She probably needed an escape to what was happening at home and gave in.

Am I justifying her actions? Hell no! But "humanizing" a perpetrator helps us understand the whys of their actions.
