I don't think he was dating her. Sounds like he crossed the line with her, once. But he took her innocence and kept going. Seems he did that with every girl. Innocence here can be their virginity, their dreams, their passion, their confidence. He's like a vampire feeding on the way they look at him.

It kind of is about being American though. In most countries a 16 year old and 12 year old wouldn't be unlawful, especially not a kiss and a little butt grab, if consensual. I don't remember any mention of fingering? The fact she was upset about it was probably more to do with the culture telling her it was wrong and she should be upset, than the act itself. She also seemed more upset by the fact he ran off after something that was so important to her.
The way she made it sound it seem like that was her first time being touched or kissed by a guy and then he disappeared. It is a big deal when your a young and innocent 11/12
