Why didn't the parents realize that their son was autistic?

They were both intelligent. A few behavior mods would have made everyone's life happier. They seem clueless.

Probably more like Asperger's.

Not as limiting as autism.

They did know their son had Asbergers. I'm not sure where you are getting that they didn't.

Um... Episode 1. The grandfather mentioned when the son was diagnosed with Asperger's.
