I felt so sorry for Louise + Brian... (spoilers for finale)

I watched the final episode yesterday and am really going to miss this show. The finale shocked me, but the most shocking part was when Gavin (spoiler) killed Brian and Louise by trapping them behind that wall (end spoiler)... that was so ruthless! I really loved them and I mean really, what did they do wrong - for real? Yes, they both made mistakes: Brian was totally wrong for sleeping with Alexis because she gave him inspiration for his writing, Louise was wrong for sleeping with Harlan... but I mean, they never did anything more serious. Yes, they went through some really tough relationship trouble but they loved each other and I believed them to be really good people. Lou didn't almost kill Alexis on purpose, she was sick (yes, I believe that people who are addicted to one thing or another have a disease and need help, but can't be held responsible entirely because they are not necessarily bad people). And they most certainly didn't kill Alexis on purpose... she attacked them and by smashing her, Brian saved Lou's life. It was total self defense, only the police wouldn't believe that because of Lou's history, which is sad really.

It was so tragic... I really didn't see it coming. When Gavin appeared, I thought he was going to help them, that he would understand why they did it... but when he sentanced them to dead instead, I couldn't believe it. Lou crying out of fear and Brian hugging her and saying ''at least we're together'' really broke my heart...

Violet to make a spoiler you need to use [ ] with spoiler then /spoiler at the end between the brackets. Look under markup enabled in you browser.

something that ruthless and cold makes me like Gavin even more. i hated when Harlan got killed in an earlier episode

I figured he would make a deal with them to hide the murder and they would do something in return for them. Did not think he would do that to them and I really wasn't thrilled that happened to them!

Gavin is truly evil. Unlike other "devils" he actually sets it up where people owe him (rather than making it free choice) and then he enjoys seeing them suffer. Only when he can gain advantage through them (like Henry) does he continue to "help" them.

I feel like the final episodes was written in a rush and pretty much every storyline suffered because of it. I wonder if Gavin would have offered them a new deal if the show gotten a second season? Killing them just seemed like a quick, sloppy way to wrap things up.

It was rushed. The producers had to completely rewrite the finale so that there wouldn't be a cliffhanger and they didn't have a lot of time to do that, so the storytelling ended up being really rushed as a result

Alexis was way hotter than Louise, IDK why Brian just didn't go with it.

Here’s a thought: When last we saw Brian and Louise, they were still alive and they had reconciled with each other. Realizing their air would soon run out, they desperately searched every inch of the inner walls and finally found a small latch that opened a secret panel in the wall. Inside was an old tunnel built during Prohibition for smuggling in booze. They managed to follow it to its other side which opened to the outside through what had appeared to be an ornate framework.

Fearing they still might be tied in with the death of Nona, they fled to California, changing their hair color and appearance to hide their identities. They eventually managed to get some plastic surgery, purchase fake identities and start new lives as Robert and Mercedes Bernstein. “Mercedes” became active in a local AA group, where in time she became almost a legend in her abilities to help others break their alcohol addictions and face up to their pasts. “Robert”, bolstered by the success of DISAPPEARING INK, realized he had genuine writing talent. Eventually, he created a successful series of novels (and later a TV show) about a sinister apartment complex called the Magellan, run by evil soul-stealing landlords named Devon and Lydia.

After a few years, the couple had enough money to travel the world, but they were careful never again to set foot in the state of New York. And they got religion as well. As for their former identities of Brian and Louise Leonard, they were reported missing and never seen or heard from again. Their fate was speculated about on the Internet for about six months, and then virtually forgotten.

Gavin later realized that his melodramatic move of putting the couple in the same wall they tried to bury Nona in, instead of just letting them be absorbed into the walls or floor like everyone else, ended up costing him two souls. But he had plenty of other souls to occupy him, so he didn't care.

That was the ultimate fate of Brian and Louise, and nothing that I said contradicts what we saw in the show. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I like your version of events, even though The Drake probably ate them already. :)

I didn't feel a bit sorry for them and most of the time, one or both were being perpetual scumbags. All their deceit, lies, and the affairs with other people weren't even the worst parts (and that was bad enough). They didn't work well as a couple at all either. Also, remember Louise knew very well the hit and run, she suspected was a person all along and yet she tried to get away with the crime. Then again, with killing the woman they tried to get away with a crime. It was fitting justice - after all they hid the body blocked up in a wall too, so it was great symmetry. After all they had done, there was no way they could have just gotten a happily ever after.

Agreed, what Gavin did to them was incredibly cruel. Brian and Louise weren't exactly good people, but not criminals or serial killers either! I was shocked.
