Alien Surf Girls - Really ?!?

I see that they changed the name of the show in the U.S. to Alien Surf Girls. That just seems like a really awful title to me. It sounds like a cheesy B movie that would be shown on the SyFy channel.

Maybe they are trying to reach a younger audience. Alien Surf Girls also sounds like a cartoon for preteens but Lightning Point sounds more like a normal program for adults. I'm just afraid a lot of viewers will be turned off by the weird title and not give the show a chance.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the title?

Maybe Nick thought this title would have a bigger hook. My daughters saw the teaser for this and one said something about yet another Jonathan Schiff program about girls, water and magic. I think this is his 4th or 5th program in this genre. Doesn't Mr. Schiff have another idea? Or is he just hot for girls, water and magic?

That's what they said about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (the title being off putting) I haven't watched the show yet so meh.

I bet Teen Nick US just drew 3 words from a hat and decided to make a show based around it. Also, did you see the promo? It is an over-auto-tuned glitter pop song! It's called "Alien Surf Girls (Yup)". Once again, I lose faith for my country.

I haven't seen that promo song but it's apparently not used in the show itself. The theme is called "Ocean Blue" according to the credits and has no vocals.

I just watched the first episode. Acting not as good as I remember "H2O Just Add Water", but some of the girls are hot :)

I agree they should have kept the original name Lightning Point. It sounds better.

I like the original name, the changed name yes it's a bit cheesy however I am enjoying this show.

Besides Alien Surf Girls which sounds weird and Lighting Point which is more adult and to me sounds like Twin Peaks, what else could you come up with? Keep in mind this is for a teenager audience.

I agree w/ fact that U.S. must be trying to bring in certain audience by mentioning they are Aliens who surf (and wait for it) are Girls. Not only will they bring in preteen boys looking to see girls in wet suits (i.e. hoping for bikinis) surfing but they also get there vibe of Aliens.

If they would have kept the original title then they would have had to promote the show much bigger because viewers wouldn't have got what the show was initially about just from title.

Personally didn't realize there was a different title till I came to look up the show and everytime I put in Alien Surf Girls ... Lightning Point kept popping up.

I totally agree. "Lightning Point" is utterly generic. "Alien Surf Girls" is direct, to the point and fabulously campy. Maybe it is more campy than the actual show, but better that some people watch the show and be disappointed than that they never even bother to watch the show in the first place.
