Into the Wild

Doesn't Emile Hirsch seem like such a purposeful choice for the character given his Into the Wild (and polar opposite) role? Anyone else notice that, since Lance was more or less the exact opposite of the serious, nature-loving, society-leaving Christopher McCandleless? Seems like he wants to move away from that, show some range, or the director thought some subtle irony could be injected in.

And he did a pretty good job I thought, almost unrecognisable as Lance, believable as both.
