Animal cruelty [Spoilers]

Was the animal cruelty to the dog's pups really necessary? Viewers already got the point that lighthouse keeper is insane.

I almost stopped at watching the whole movie at that point. Next time in any movie something like that and I will stop right then and there. EVEN NOTHING REALLY HAPPENED IN REAL LIFE TO THOSE ANIMALS. Some idiots will always get the ideas out of it.
