The bad personality of the main actor

The main actor has been shown to very affectionate and care for others to the point that he will try everything (including time travel which is very risky because of its complications) to make their close one's life better. But he preferred having same 6 month old baby than a much better and "safer" life for his sister. I have a 14 month old son so I can easily relate. If my son is changed at 6 months for the life of my sister, I would happily accept it because I would not feel a difference if the child is less than 2-3 years old. Because if the child is over 3-5 years then it would be very difficult to live with the fact. Children hardly start speaking properly below 3 year and do not show personality traits by then, so it is much easier till that time. My only point is that it is not just about the face of the child as shown in movie. he came in the house, saw different baby and walked out. How insensitive. The new baby was as adorable as the previous one. He left the child at the moment when he saw him. That was so gross. It is your child no matter which sperm produces him, it is still your child and take responsibility of it, and not just leave him like that. And he is absolutely fine with his sister being in a life-threatening accident.

I gotta say... if you wouldn't care that your 6 months old son suddenly was gone, and you could never see him again, you're the one with a bad personality...
And yes, children do show personality traits very early, and earlier than 3 years old.

No, he realized that his sister had to fundamentally change. If she avoided the bad boyfriend, she would still be the same person making bad choices. It was only in the hospital bed that she realized that she had to stop being with bad guys and quitting jobs. This also allows her to experience the entire relationship with Jay.

I am pretty appalled to hear someone say they care more about their (adult! capable of making choices!) sibling being happy than their child's life even existing.

Even a newborn baby absolutely has a personality and if you don't think your 6 mo kid has one...maybe you should try to get to know them better?

The guy LOVED his daughter. She was HIS BABY and he cared about that. I don't get why that's hard to grasp.

To me, reading not only this thread but the board as a whole, I am amazed at how many screwed up, spiteful, judgmental posters there are. From people saying that there should only be films made about the Working Classes, to people who can only see a Family unit through the medium of "Abuse".

imdb is like the worst pub in the world, where you have to give even the most obstinate and dysfunctional fools space to vomit their innards all over the page.

To hear someone say that they would give up the personality of their 6 month old
child just beggars belief. And then to criticize someone who can see the folly of that arrangement. Wow, some people really are a waste of Oxygen.

I totally disagree (which is allowed...we can even agree to disagree.) When watching this I felt a pang for the baby who was...and then wasn't...but when I thought of my own firstborn son, I knew how Tim felt and why he immediately did what he did. I really disagree with your assessment that you could trade kids if they were less than 2-3 years old. My heart was totally entwined with my son, especially after the first few weeks. I could never have given him up. Also...Posy was his child. How could he "vanish" her?

I know that the second child, the boy, was not the same person as the "gone" baby, but it did kind of help that he had the same dark hair as that one.

As to his being selfish about saving his sister.....he still did! He just found another way to do so. He knew that she had survived the accident, so it was not as though she was going to die of her injuries.

Anyway....pithy situation that generates a lot of emotion.

You can poke all kinds of holes in time travel movies. Just accept About Time as the fictional story it is, and enjoy.

Not to mention he made the decision for his future girlfriend which boyfriend she would have...(by stopping her from meeting that other fellow at the party). There were a few questionable details hehe, but I liked the movie.
