Its sad that he died, but he was a petty, self-absorbed, greedy douche.

well said Frey was a legend in his own mind, mediocre at best, certainly no richie furay

i just watched the documentary over the weekend. its one thing to hear someone say what a prick another guy is but Frey is on camera telling everyone with his own mouth what a REAL PRICK he is.unbelievable.

So an older wiser Glenn Frey says he messed up. How many people do that? I didn't understand the Glenn Frey bashing when he was alive and I really don't understand it now. I guess everyone who bashes Glenn Frey never screwed up, young or old and all of us know EVERYTHING that went on with the group. I was reading things and watching interviews about the Eagles before he died and now everything I can find and everyone says he was a great guy. People are choosing to see the things in the documentary in a one-sided fashion. Glenn was just painfully honest. For instance, I actually think Don Felder's tribute to Glenn was as heartfelt as Don Henley's.

I REALLY NEVER FOLLOWED THE EAGLES. the documentary says 2012. when did glenn say he messed up? i was just so surprised that his anger was so raged over incidents that happened years before.i feel the same way about felders comments as you.i never really appreciated schmit before but have to admire the way he handled things.

You said it in your post that he said he messed up - [out of] 'his own mouth [he said] what a real prick he is'.
I was just so surprised that his anger was so raged over incidents that happened years before.
Where in the documentary does he show current anger? Everything he talked about was in the past.

i didnt hear him call himself a "prick". i only stated that because of his attitude and open anger towards others. i really love that being so socially conscious that they teamed up with WALMART when it came to enriching themselves. i think that was so fantastic! i disagree with the o.p. i DON'T hate glenn. (in case you don't know the left really hate WALMART). RESPOND IF YOU LIKE BUT I AM DONE WITH THIS.

I think he called himself out. He said he made mistakes when the group was first together. I like to call Glenn and Don, 'the badass from Detroit' and the 'farm boy from TX'. Glenn was just raised to solve things with violence and their intake of drugs probably didn't help matters.

I've never read this anywhere and, of course, why would they want anyone to know this, but Walmart gave away "Long Road out of Eden". I came home one day and the CD was in my mailbox. I've always wondered how that happened and how many other people got it free.

Here's a quote from Irving Azoff, perhaps prompted by the kind of reaction we're seeing above:

Glenn could be very businesslike. Someone had to be. The Eagles was such a high-functioning machine because it was a sports team, and somebody had to be the enforcer. Not that Glenn relished that role, but he was vocally expressing what he and Henley were thinking. Glenn now gets the highest grades in terms of integrity and heart. If you want to say, "Oh, but he didn't always deliver it in the nicest way," OK, but that's part of life. And that was part of his passion.

After the things Azoff has said about Glenn since he died, I think instead of hating Glenn, anyone who came in contact with him should be thanking him. How many groups from those days are worth hundreds of millions of dollars? I frankly don't know how he did it - having a head for business, writing those beautiful songs and doing it stoned out of his mind most of the time and, at least, the band stayed together for 9 years. Plus, guess what? It eventually killed him. David Bowie's estate was worth $100M and he hadn't done sh!t in years. All of the current and former Eagles should still be millionaires, including Randy Meisner thanks to Glenn Frey. If David Bowie was worth $100M, Don Henley is probably worth $300M and everybody else close behind. So instead of an 'I hate Glenn Frey' club, there ought to be a 'Thank you for my life Glenn Frey' club.
