I just couldn’t shake off the feeling …

… that I was watching a “Lord of the Rings” fan film. Every one of its 97 minutes just screams ‘Don’t spend a penny more than you have to!” The plot is a quest by a very small band of Vikings through uninhabited country. Lots of shots of scenery devoid of actors alternated with the actors walking through generic woods. Every 20 minutes or so one of the actors is attacked in the woods by three extras wearing identical full body concealing outfits. That way the same three extras can be reused for each attack scene. The Viking costumes and weapons look OK but are pretty much generic rental items. All indoor scenes are shot in flickering torchlight so that the sets don’t have to have a lot of detail. The combat scenes aren’t interesting, the extras all die instantly while the named actors linger on long enough to give death speeches.

This is being hyped as a fantasy film but there are no supernatural elements whatsoever. The actors spend a lot of time making obscene and scatological comments to show that they are macho and also make a few references to Norse mythology to remind us that they do not come from a Judeo-Christian culture. The lead character Steinar has no personality or charisma whatsoever. About halfway through they pick up a girl named Astrid to tempt us with the possibility of a romantic subplot, but she literally does nothing for the rest of the picture. The last item on the checklist is to get an [R] rating by having a female extra with no lines or purpose appear topless in blue body paint in two or three torch lit scenes.

Stabbing a dude 20 times to rescue the hero from death is "nothing"? Are you a member of a lesbian biker gang?

Thats about accurate as a review as you can get, all it really had was the battles and the death speeches haha.

I had to stop at 24:30. Where the heck is that idea from?

You ppl are so rude w/ all these spoilers in your postings, especially the op! There's no purpose in watching the movie now smfh

All the low budget stuff would be understandable if the music didn't constantly pull you out of the experience. It made it less of a piece of entertainment & pushed it into a study of budget film making.

you're a moron.

how this movie has anything to do with LOTR is beyond me.

First off, vikings were a real group of people. Not so much hobbits, elves, orcs or wizards.

Second, I dont recall a quest for a magical ring.

Third, I cant remember much blood being shed in LOTR unless it was orc blood.

Third, this wasnt a fantasy film.

Fourth, you need to read more books.

"There isn't a jury in the world that would convict a baby...well, maybe Texas "-

Nobody died in the battles of The Two Towers and Return of the King? It was all orc blood? I remember a lot of humans and elves getting killed.

Seriously, is it that freakin hard to reply to the right thread instead of any random one?

Also, don't forget that the mystical viking just disappears after he enters the cave, which was rather annoying as he was my favourite character.

It was easy to forget that they were vikings, as they certainly didn't act (or in some cases) look like some.
