huh? fantasy/medieval movies? there's been a steady stream of them for years. get off the "<insert general similarities> means it's a ripoff" bandwagon.

reply

Uh, this is actually pretty blatant. If you're going to say in the trailer "THERE IS A THRONE TO BE CLAIMED", you are on the bandwagon. The scenery, costuming, characters, and "black misty mountain fog monster" scene, are all Game of Thronesy. +1 for OP.

I admit that line is questionable and it also has the actor who plays Mormont from GoT actually in the movie. Regardless I was asking the OP what he was talking about he's not specific at all, I'm wondering if he's just one of those people who shout 'rip-off' based on the most flimsy reasons. I'm glad to be on that bandwagon, most people do find them obnoxious.

If I were one of them I would say it's ripping off VIKINGS more than GoT though. It too has one of the same actors in common and it's far more similar in all sorts of ways. Saying the scenery and costuming is too similar is blatant nitpicking though and you know it, it's no different than many movies of this type. I'm not even going to bother with the fog monster. Back to 0 for the OP.

Also, at the end of the trailer they say "winter is coming".....

I don't buy it. Given the nature of the source material and the complexity of world creation for stories like this, it's actually very difficult to avoid repeating elements from other films/books/TV shows/etc -- by random chance alone.

These days, if you go to the boards for almost any film out there you'll find posts from people that are convinced it's a rip-off of some previous work. Rarely is that actually the case.

How you deduce this is anyway similar to GoT is beyond me.

GoT encompasses entire continents and kingdoms. With various families and factions all plotting against each other politically in an intricate web.

This movie was a ragtag Viking army clinging to a small foothold it had in england and a dying King trying to figure out which son will rule in his stead.
Yes, thats some Machiavellian depth right there.

People need to read more damn books. The only thing this movie had in common with GoT is that there were swords, violence and people with british accents.

It might look like it, but it's not. Game of Thrones is actually worth watching I think. I mean I'd rather watch 2 episodes of GoT than sit through this abortion again. This was utterly forgettable. I don't think they were cashing in however, there were always plenty of movies like this way before GoT came along.
