I liked the pilot but this show looks like it would be expensive.Of course they didn't advertise the pilot at all so they will use the low ratings as an excuse to not pick it up.

I agree...I think that's exactly why it wasn't picked up. Having to recreate a new time era (multiple vehicles, costumes, street scenes) for each episode would be enormously expensive.
shareI'm guessing that's why shows like Seven Days,Quantum Leap,etc stick to a certain timeline. I don't know whose idea it was to go all over the place like that. That's only used in multi-million dollar movies not weekly TV shows.

Quantum Leap jumped around quite a bit as well (over the several decades of Beckett's lifetime). There were major costume and set changes each week. As for going back further, studios have costumes and sets for certain periods of the past (various wars, westerns, etc.) that can be used.
I wonder if they could have moved scripts fast enough to take advantage of openings on other sets. So - a Civil War miniseries will wrap in a few weeks, put together a Civil War scenario and rent the set for a few days after they wrap.
You'd have to have *great* script writers and be *very* flexible - I don't even know if it could work.
You would think the bean counters at Sci-Fi would think of that before they greenlight and produce a pilot?
I think they just scrapped it because it was plainly bad. Bad acting, terrible conceptualisation, and frankly boring.
Sci-fi genre is targetting a smart geeks and nerds audience, and those like their shows made by smart people. If you want a dumb show that makes no sense and is quite boring, you can make it for much cheaper in an other genre and it will get more viewers.
