Smallville might be the best DC show out of them all

They kept his powers in check by only starting with the strength and speed. His support network at first was only his parents and slowly adding one friend each subsequent season. Being in high school helped with all the drama because people expect that nonsense from teens, not grown folk.

All the other nonsense isn't as bad because this was the first time a lot of us were experiencing it. Either that or the good stuff was just so good that we tolerated the bad. The bad didn't really get that bad until later seasons when it was obvious that the show should have ended already.

What's worse about the new shows is that I never remembered getting bored from and ignoring the action bits in Smallville. Right now Flash has the best fight (mostly because they have to get creative with the only the good guys have is moving fast), and surprisingly, Arrow has the worst (how the Smurf do you screw up Kung Fu?!?). Supergirl is just retarded. Someone waved a candle at her and she jumped to the floor.

Don't forget: It's just a story being told

That's a very true statement when we look at the whole landscape 5 years later. Smallville went from strength to strength for its first 3 years, remained decent for the next 3 years and deteriorated in season 7. After that, it reinvented itself for its last 3 seasons and while it was a shell of its former self, it still had its moments.

Arrow nosedived within 4 years, Flash lost its luster after 2 years, Legends was garbage since the start and Supergirl is not even a hero show. It's a soap opera that drives Berlanti's SJW agenda forward. Can you imagine what any of these shows will look like after 10 seasons?

I'd argue Smallville had 3 good seasons to start, but Season 4 was terrible.

It was the one weighed down by the Lana possession plotline and the new writers who tried to lighten the show.

S3 was my favorite, due to all the great Lex performances.

Smallville has an uneven track record;

Good Seasons: 1, 2, 3, 5, 9,

Bad Seasons: 4, 6, 7, 8, 10,

I see that 4 is a bad number. Except for Supernatural, season 4 was epic.

'Smallville' was a great show and to me it is third to 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher and 'Wonder Woman' with Lynda Carter which are my favourite superhero shows of all time and I don't think any of the current superhero shows have been as good as 'Smallville' and one of the things I loved the most about that show was all the superheroes and supervillains they had appear in it.

I would love to see a 'Smallville' movie with all the cast returning but I think it is highly unlikely at this point with multiple characters appearing in the 'Arrowverse' being played by different actors.

Curious what your thoughts on the animated superhero shows. Because for me they have been better than the live action shows in terms of plot, characterization, actors, mood, and fidelity to the source material.

But a lot of people judge animation separately from live action, so a lot great shows/movies get overlooked by this bias.

Which I never got. Quality is quality regardless of medium.

So for me the best DC shows are:

JL/JLU
Batman: The Animated Series
Superman: The Animated Series

Its really a bit difficult to compare Smallville to the other shows.

Lets start with what you said. I agree that his powers and skills were handled well in Smallville. He wasnt OP plus the fact that he was in his teen days and early adulthood helped with character development. All characters in Smallville were pretty great.

Of course the show wasnt perfect. As you stated there was a point things dropped in quality. I cannot fully compare that to the current DC shows cause i fully watched Smallville years after the show ended. So i think that in some flaws i may have paid less attention than i would have if i was watching each episode weekly.

In my opinion all the current DC shows are really bad. We have long crossed the line of having some flaws. We are at the point where to enjoy an episode you have to forget all past seasons and at the same time shut down your brain. As far as fight scenes go Arrow droped in quality, LoT never had anything major and Supergirl has no idea how to fight. I havent watched Flash since 3x02 so i cant speak for it. But all have failed in quality and have been failing.

I quit SM during the later seasons. Too many secrets and myths for superman blah blah. Too much prosutring that he'll be the man of steel but not quite there. People told me it was better in the final, seasons. Although I like Gotham now but it might turn into SM later.

Nope. Lucifer and iZombie may be under different banners and deviate from the source material, however, they are both superior shows.

This is heaven. Right here. We're in it now.

No might... it IS the best DC show. I never got bored with the story & the actors played their parts well. As a matter of fact, I re-watch the show last fall.

Even though people hated Lana, she was important to the Clark Kent story-line. I mean he had to go through the highs and lows of love with Lana so he could prepare for Lois. Speaking of Lois, Smallville did Lois & Clark's relationship so well... I love the progression from frenemies to friends to lover. It is amazing to watch.

With the exception of The Flash, the other CW DC shows are trash.

anyone who support the OP is a troll an will be reported as a troll!

Agreed on the relationship part. The Lois/Clark romance was well portrayed in the show.

I dont agree about the Flash. The 2nd season was pretty trashy in my opinion. I havent watched season 3. I have however seen Flashpoint and it was a disaster. After that i watched the 2nd and 3rd episodes but i didnt like them. From rumors i hear the show hasnt improved.

I can't say if it was the best. I can only say I never cared for it, so I stopped watching early on.

Agreed I loved Smallville way more than any of the current DC shows. Though seasons 6 and 7 were pretty bad but 8 to 10 really got back the quality of early seasons.

The writing with Smallville and the actors chemistry is what really set it apart. The Kent family remains to this day the best family dynamic I have seen on tv. Likewise the Luther family provided the opposite of the perfect American Kent family. The deep way it show just how Clark became superman opposite lex dessert into madness and darkness was just so spot on. The relationship were all believable and the actors were all good and were written to the actors strengths. Unlike arrow which insists on giving felicity dramatic material even though the actress is terrible at doing dramatic scenes.

Just a better show in all areas than any of the current DC shows. Though ironically most of them tried and failed to copy smallvilles successful formula for bringing a hero to the small screen.
