If Hollywood had made this they would have toned down the language
To get a PG13. Here in NZ the language in this film doesn't push it above M, meaning that kids can see it (and it'd be a great film for Maori kids in similar situations). However it's R level in the States (not really a big issue since it got such a limited release that hardly anyone would have heard of it.
