Richmond, Indiana

I noticed in one of the scenes that this film was set in Richmond, Indiana, which is where my mom and her side of the family are from. I checked the director's page and he is also from Richmond, which seems a strange coincidence bc it is a pretty small town in the Midwest among many other small towns just like it that are known for being wholesome and exceedingly normal. When I visited family there, it definitely had a creepy underlying vibe to it, and I live in New Orleans, which is the capital of creepy, so it takes a lot to weird me out. My mom and uncles, who grew up in Richmond, always said something just wasn't right about the town and the only word they could find to describe it was evil. They told me about strange events, like an explosion that destroyed the entire downtown area in the early to mid 20th century. Also, my grandma went to high school with Jim Jones-of People's Temple fame. So I felt it seemed appropriate and fitting to set this eerie film in Richmond, where it seems that an unbelievable tragedy like this could actually occur...Does anyone have any experiences with Richmond or any other strange little towns?
