Social services lady at the start of the movie

I really liked her with her no *beep* speech about how she needed to reach for the help now. It felt right. I did not seen such a down to earth good scene in the film for a while.

it's a very tricky kind of speech to get right, getting across both the offering of help and the emphasis on having to take that help rather than just have it thrown at you. came across as hitting both points well without leaning too much to one or the other

Her performance was strong! Noteworthy for sure.

I actually found most of the acting to be reasonable, which surprised me considering the relatively low rating.

I've worked as a hospital social worker and yes discharge is the main priority for a social worker in that setting and you need to have the proper balance of empathy and assertiveness, but I did not like the way she was portrayed. Social Workers in movies are illustrated as cold and insensitive, which opposes our actual code of ethics.

I mean, a woman is assaulted during her last month of pregnancy, her belly pounded on, lost her unborn baby, underwent C-section, which has a longer recovery (though it was all planned, but the SW didn't know that)... you would think the SW would have been more supportive instead of telling her she needs a strong support system and a couple brochures. And you don't tell a patient you essentially need to get rid of them to make room for others.

I would never act in that manner.
