Absolute rubbish

As a huge fan of all types of cinema, I found this film to be absolutely atrocious in many ways.

Characters: boring, 1 dimensional, and the lesbian lover was a total caricature

Acting: shockingly bad. I was embarrassed for all involved.

Plot: tried too hard to be shocking, derivative of many other (better) films, misogynistic, ridiculous

The pacing was awful, and the slow-mo bathroom scene was so stupid I laughed. Was it supposed to be funny? Trying to rip off Hitchcock but slowing the scene down with OTT music and stupid amounts of blood took away any gravitas the scene could have had.

The music was way over the top for the cheap cinematography. it just made it seem silly.

If you want to see a low budget indie thriller, watch Blue Ruin. I suggest Zack Parker watches it too........

I'm proud to say I'm friends with Jeremy and Macon, so I've seen BLUE RUIN. It's terrific.

reply

I'm not friends with them, so I guess I'm lucky that I've managed to see it. ;)

Hi there,

I just wanted to make you realize, that the guy who wrote that he knows the blue-ruin-people is really the director of Proxy. :)

Cheers,

Franz

@melly_rel.......someone told me something one time. You want to hear it? Ok, here goes. Opinions are like buttholes......everybody has one.

Your over the top, dramatic review trumped the over dramatic, slow motion bathroom scene. So there you go.....that's my take on it

reply

Hi Brandon

Thanks for giving your opinion on my opinion.

Although I have to say. giving your opinion on someone else's opinion is more inane than giving a bad review.

reply

Melly_rel we are quite the whiner aren't we...

reply

Totally agree with you. Everyone has their opinions and some just think they are "superior" enough to review a movie and be insulted when someone disagrees.
I thought this was a film for the cinema because it is better than most of the movies that are shown at Theaters.
Beautifully acted and well written and completely believable acting and dialog. For me this movie was a five star.

reply

I thought it was a good film all round.

reply

Blue Ruin is indeed great, but it has nothing to do with this movie. This movie is pretty good for what it sets out to do.

Your review has the distinct flavor of the "if it isn't excellent then it f-ing SUCKS" school of thought.

reply

I occasionally upbraid posters for dumping on flicks without offering some kind of insight/metrics.

You gotta give this to Melly; his/her comments _are_ decently thought-out. It looks like even Zach sees this and respects it.

reply

I respect anyone's opinion. Everyone is entitled to theirs. That said, I agree with nothing he/she has said except that I also thoroughly enjoyed BLUE RUIN.

My films are not made to please everyone. I like to believe they are quite subjective and specific. Therefore, negative responses come with the territory.

Thanks,

I have yet to see _Proxy_, but will watch it with an open mind when the opportunity arises.

And, gotta say, nice to see the director haunting the boards. I'll scout about for your other comments.

Blue Ruin and Proxy exemplify two completely different styles of filmmaking.

They are both fantastic films and in my top ten for the entire year.

Anyone who thinks Proxy's style is over the top should check out DePalma's "Sisters" or "Carrie" for that matter. Just because something is excessive doesn't mean it can't be well-made, effective, or artfully done.

Thanks rzajac!

Blue Ruin was an interesting film, dragged in places and at times tried to be a little too clever with the dialogue, but I also recommend it.

if there is an elephant in the room, I like to charge for rides

reply

Wow! It's absolute rubbish!

Well... okay. If you say so. And I'm sure you know your movies inside and out.

As far as rubbish movies go, this one held my interest quite well. The acting, especially for the actress who played Esther, I found to be quite good.

I cannot quite understand why people feel this... need... to diss films as "Worst Ever" and other such nonsense. Almost every movie you check out here has at least one poser doing exactly that sort of thing.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinions. But sheesh. Show some restraint, you know? As the saying goes (more or less), "One person's rubbish is another person's treasure."

So... you, um, didn't like this movie, I suppose. FINE. When did you realize that it was "rubbish?" And at that point, why didn't you just hit the STOP button? If you chose to torture yourself by watching to the bitter end - that's on YOU!

reply

If this is rubbish, may I have another serving please?
