Someone explain the reason Ester was assaulted. (SPOILERS)

We know that Ester wanted Anika to kill her baby, and surprisingly, Ester survives the planned attack, even though the doctor told her that it was extremely unlikely that she would live through it.

I understand that Ester was clearly skewed with her thinking (obviously), but the deep roots of what she was thinking were not made clear. What could be some possible reasons for why Ester planned this with Anika?

Because she wanted the attention of being pregnant but, didn't want the baby. That's why she was attracted to Melanie and wanted to help Melanie be able to live out her fantasy.

Because being beaten so badly that you miscarry is a much more interesting story than a plain old miscarriage. In her warped thinking anyway....

Maybe because she is a crazy, psychotic bitch of the type that should be euthanized.
