IMDB Weighted Rating vs. Arithmetic Mean

Thank you for checking out the message boards. Please note that the arithmetic mean of reviews for "My Name Was Bette: The Life and Death of an Alcoholic" is above a 9.0 as of this writing (April, 2013), although the odd IMDB "weighted" ratings is much lower. IMDB notes that its formula for determining "weighted" ratings is secret, so we can't explain why the discrepancy is so great.

Please do not be put off by the "weighted" rating. People who watch this film almost to a person have expressed how powerful and informative they find it on the topic of how women's alcoholism. In fact, until this week, when the formula for determining the "weighted" rating must have changed, this documentary was the third most highly rated educational documentary on IMDB.

Thank you for your time! Please visit our FB page for more information about the film, and to follow developments!

Sherri - I really related to this film, because this is what would have happened to my life if I had not gotten in to Alcoholics Anonymous back in 1987. The real reason all of this happened to your mom is because she was an alcoholic. Only about 6% of alcoholics stay sober ten years or longer - most alcoholics go back out and drink. So your mother just did what alcoholics do. I"m sorry for your loss. I hope the production of this fine film has helped you get in to a better place with your feelings about what happened to you and your mom.

Finally, you lost out on an opportunity to have the relationship you wanted with your mother, but you can have that good relationship with your own children - the relationship you always wished for. God bless you and your family. - Sherry G., Chico CA

Thank you, Sherry! My children are a blessing and also producing the film was indeed incredibly healing. It helped us understand our mother in her totality much better and reclaim so much of her that alcohol killed. Thanks again for viewing and for writing!
