Seriously... 2 minutes into it and we get b**bs

Two minutes into it and the chick pulls off her shirt... shows that she has b**bs and modifies her lace bra. Give me a break. End it now.

It's not exactly a "manly" show. I guess they were just trying to get male viewers to pay attention.

reply

Not "manly" but it's squished between CSI:NY and Blue Bloods.

Of course, Krakowski doing her Trop 50 commercials seems like it's aiming at women!

"He was alive yesterday?."

reply

haha ironically I'm a woman and find those commercials highly annoying.

reply

Yes they were going for male viewers and they may have gotten some. I did not consider it wrong by any means. I love this actress in everything she has appeared in. She is a lot more talented than most viewers think just watch her mannerisms and style when she is on screen she is a real pro for such a young age.

reply

Actually it does happen in real life. You get something on your outfit while at work or out on a date and you must modify to make it work. I am a woman and did not mind the scene, showed her cleverness.

reply

[deleted]

I did. She has nice skin.
Thank you.

reply

Thank you, thank you, thank you !
Thank goodness the brits are not as uptight as the USA.

reply

I am a woman too and I thought her solution was ridiculous. Could she not have rinsed off the soap in the sink and dried the wet area with the hand dryer on the wall behind her?

Wow, really, there was a complaint about this?

Anybody reading this who had not seen the show would think there was nudity involved.

This thing wouldn't even fall to the level of an underwear ad.

Either foundsomefun foundsomex-ray-glasses, or the version of this episode I saw had the section he was talking about excised---which I find highly doubtful.

I agree. I think foundsomefun has been watching too many reruns from the 60s and 70s if this was really that off putting. She was just showing her quick thinking. Most other shows would have her sleeping with someone to get ahead but she actually uses her brains.

reply

No... it wasn't showing her quick thinking. It was the classless writers pandering. It showed that they were using nonsense to get your attention instead of some clever writing.

And obviously I was not the only one who thought the show's writing stunk because they did cancel it.

reply

Try and realize we are not in the 1950s and TV can show a woman in a bra for literally "1 second" on screen without getting the censors in a tizzy. But someone as close minded and probably beyond the age of 60 should probably stick to reruns of Matlock and Perry Mason for their good, clean and wholesome courtroom TV fare. The show wasn't that bad but unfortunately networks like CBS especially yank shows without giving them much of a chance and putting them on horrible nights or up against very stiff competition and pull them within 2 showings. It's not really worth watching new shows anymore until one is sure they will be around for awhile.

reply

You reminded me of the show, Homefront, with Kyle Chandler.

Sammie Davis was the English war bride who came home with an American GI. He wants to start a family, and the first time we see her, she goes into the drug store and the very first line she says in the show, as a matter of fact, "I would like some spermicide for my diaphram."

I thought, this was life in the states after WWII? this is a focus? Worth showing and discussing?

The show worked mainly because of Chandler, or held on because of him.

I have just never forgotten that opening line from her. It was just such a braindead way to meet a character. To get a character's intentions across.

reply

Egads, did I just walk through a time portal to Victorian England?

I hope you people never stumble across a beach in summertime. Your poor little hearts won't take it.

Seriously. Do not risk turning your television onto a sports channel. One cheerleader outfit, one volleyball clip--heck, one Bic's razor for women commercial and you might be crawling towards your rotary phone to dial in 911.

It seemed to me that this point of this scene was to show her resourcefulness, not to "show off some skin". The camera barely focused on her at all. If there wasn't this thread it would never have even crossed my mind to think of this as a "sexy" scene---and even with this thread it only crosses my mind long enough to dismiss it.

From a "lower class" neighborhood she is being judged by her appearance more than others--and women, unfortunately, are judged more than men in this regard anyway. It showed she had to do something clever to make herself presentable, and then, even when in awkward attire, she had the guts to state her opinion.

I think that that was the point of the scene. Anybody who just saw boobs is obsessed with sex.

It wasn't even a sexy scene. It didn't even reach the level of an underwear advert.

I maintain that one would have to be sex obsessed (and most likely repressed) to see that scene and see that as its primary purpose.

The fact that this thread even existed amazed me. This scene was nothing.

But, of course, in some cultures women get in trouble for showing an ankle because that arouses sexual thoughts in others. My thought is that this is the fault of the people in whom the thoughts are arising, and not the attire of the women.

Jeeze, you could understand what was going on if everything was done in silhouette too, or if everything was filmed at 10 frames a second, or if everything was done with a really shaky camera. That doesn't mean there is a conspiracy afoot in any of those areas. Many brief moments can be cut out of a 45 minute long show without serious detriment (individually)---that doesn't mean that the presence of each was is part of a scheme, or that in multiple they could be removed without detriment.

The fact that you are micro-analyzing every scene that has any skin proves the exact point I am making. They are just telling a story. The rest of us are just seeing a story. You feel you are being bombarded with sexual imagery.

We all know that sex sells and for once, yeah, I would like a female character who is not either a whore or a bitch or both.

Oh yeah, I'm putting words in your "fingers". Yarright.

YOU just said that because there is a 2 second shot of the lead character fixing her bra in the mirror she is either a whore or a bitch or both.

Those are YOUR words, not mine. That is the scene we have been talking about after all.

But could you be obsessed with sexuality? Noooooo of course not. Preposterous for me to suggest such a thing. Your even keeled response undermines my claim so well.

But this wasn't about her character overall. I have only seen one episode. I am not particularly invested in the show one way or another. This is about your judgement that one particular scene was inappropriate.
