I wanted to like this

Lordie me. I spent most of this film in a state of bewilderment. I cannot help but think there would have been more chemistry if Lotte had hooked up with Jack Duckworth. Casting Alan Rickman as the older husband was certainly a bad move, as most women would not be in favour of ditching him (gammy heart and all) for Richard Madden's bag of cement. I'd prefer a bag of maltesers any day myself.
