A great Horror Comedy

This movie deserves more than just a 5.5. It was a really fun horror comedy. I don't know why everyone is pissing on it so much.

The killer has cheesy one-liners on purpose. The camp members are supposed to be ridiculous and annoying because the movie is making fun of musical theater culture. That's why all the songs are dopey and over the top, but the lyrics actually manage to make them pretty funny too. Even the props in the background are humorous!

Plus, the movie references Carrie, Hellraiser, and Texas Chainsaw. How can you hate that?

Some of the death scenes could have been a little more edgy, but some of them were pretty gruesome (knife in the mouth, anyone?)

I even enjoyed that they actually had a character step up and say the obvious 'hey guys, there's a killer, we need to drop everything and leave' but still does no good.

Stage Fright was well done and a good time and needs more love.

I agree with you. This movie does deserve a better rating and the killer has got to be one of my favourites. The end was a total gorefest. And I could find hardly anything wrong with it. Even though it isn't put as a comedy I would definitely say it would be mainly because there are some comedic moments in it.

I was expecting a slasher with the theatre thing being the backdrop, wasn't expecting a horror comedy musical mashup at all. But I ended up loving it. It's a wildly creative film that only really falls somewhat short in the scenes depicting the killer. Finally found a horror film that both me and my wife could enjoy...

nailed it!

how's that for a quick change?

My humble opinion....

I completely understand what they were trying to do.
Problem is they failed. This movie sucked. As a horror film. As a comedy. As a musical. As a horror comedy musical. It failed.

There have been some truly great horror comedies in the last 10 years or so. Shaun of the Dead. Slither. Tucker and Dale.
Those are instant classics.

I guess to each his own. I am always for indie horror, so I am glad folks like it. I am just annoyed I made this my Sunday night movie. Sucks so bad when the last thing you watch on a weekend is something you do not like.

This was my feeling too. The musical numbers were lame, the killer was boring, the gore was so-so, the comedy wasn't funny, etc. It tried to be 6 things and didn't do ANY of them that well. I got what it was going for, the end product just wasn't good.

Horror comedy is my favorite genre of all time, and this was barely even watchable...

I found a lot of the musical numbers to be great. Cam's "all of life's a song to sing" line is adorable, "We're finally here" was fantastic, and both of meat loaf's main songs were awesome.

Also, once Cam's complete singing of "Alfonso" toward the end was gorgeous.

Cool.

it wasn't bad. sure, there are funnier horror comedies out there, but the musical approach is rather unconventional and deserves some kudos.

and the pirate song from the credits was priceless!

I agree. It was a lot of fun and enjoyable.
