I am watching this movie on The Movie Channel. The description of it is "A teen tries to help a troubled runaway escape escape from the clutches of her psychotic pimp".

I have not seen much of the movie, but I get the impression that "Safelight" refers to a lighthouse that is a safe place for them.

Is the movie really about them going on a "road trip to photograph lighthouses"? That sounds boring.

I also thought the title referred to the light houses. That would be obvious and logical.

It didn't occur to me until he very end, but I think "Safelight" is a play on words that refers to the dim red photo darkroom light he uses to develop his pictures. I think the point is that his darkroom is a safe place, where he has control over the images he sees and how they look when he's done. And by extension, can control the hurts he feels.
