Splinter Cell set during WW2??

I have been thinking about this for while. What about a Splinter Cell prequel game set during WW2? Where we maybe could have First Echelon set up by FDR to fight Americas enemies? And show that Sam Fisher wasn't the first agent?

Cool idea, but in reality, ABC groups were only started after WW2 in 1947, with the national security council. This was the first establishment of off record military and scientific research groups. But maybe Vietnam?

Vietnam would be an awesome setting.

Sam was the first ever Splinter Cell. They kind of stress this point in the first game when talk about how the success of Third Echelon is dependent on how successful an agent like Sam proves to be.

Personally I'd like to stick to near-future settings. The gadgetry you get to use
(among other things) contributes to the series' identity.
