No Ironside, no sale.

Its as simple as that. And if you're trying to argue that Ironside doesn't add an immense presence to the game, you're delusional.

All they had to do was retire Sam (he's almost 60, and after the events of Conviction he'd likely be off the grid forever) and make the game about someone new. I would've tried it. Not now.

Good luck, Ubisoft. You're not getting my money.

I'm still hoping they pull something like, " Sam Fisher is a codename" because like you said, why ruin the franchise when we could have just let Sam go.

I agree. Ironside breathed life into the character. Now Ubisoft killed Sam Fisher by recasting his voice. I am not wasting my money on a wannabe Sam Fisher

who cares. So if you was a James Bond or a Dr Who fan would you stop watching the movies or the series every time they bought in a new actor to play the same character of your favourite show?

While I think it's an odd choice to keep the character of Sam Fisher in the series while changing his actor and making him younger, I'll reserve judgment until the game actually comes out. I too am surprised that Ubisoft didn't just cast a new lead character as Sam's story in Conviction was wrapped up wonderfully. At the very least, they could have made Fisher the new Lambert as the voice in your ear.

I'm still looking forward to the game.

I'm currently playing the game, and about half way through (caught an early sale). I think the new VA did a really good job, and his voice is quite close to Ironside, as in close enough to make me forget about Ironside. He also captured Sam's character pretty well too. Believe me once you start playing, it won't take you long to forget all about Ironside.

I wouldn't say his voice is close to Ironside but I agree, he does a great job. His voice acting is quite good and he does have an authoritative voice when needs be. Splinter Cell is my all time favourite franchise and Ironside was synonymous with Sam Fisher but Eric Johnson did a great job (so far ... I'm on Mission 3). He shines most when interrogating or smack talking the various terrorists.

That's what I thought too. His voice becomes very commanding, yet subtle, when he's doing this. He's always very calm too, and not in the way that you think he's a nice guy. Also, I don't get the complaint that he's like every other action game star now that he doesn't act sarcastic? He's still sarcastic in this game and his demeanor is still quite the same as well.

I felt that he really got into the meat of the character especially when he was talking to his own team actually. One line he said really sold me was when he was talking to Briggs and said, "Don't ever assume anything when I'm on the field, is that clear?" You could tell that he meant a lot more than what he actually said.

yes I do agree also. at first I thought its not going to be the same without ironsides voice but a couple of levels into the game I didnt care at all. The controlling of the character and the style is very original.

Gone are the deep gravely sarcastic remarks, instead you get the usual. Lets go over there, lets do this, mission go. Its not sam fisher.

That is not the actor's fault, that is fault on the side of the writers.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

You won't play a game cos they changed an actor?

Does not matter how good the gameplay is...and it is. Does not matter it offerers a great stealth game...and it does. Does not matter the great fun Co-Op and multi-player is...and it is.

They changed an actor, so you are not interested?

You must hate the James Bond franchise of films then.

Ironside was great...but changing the actor does not make the game any less good or enjoyable to play.

Found out the hard way when I started playing the game after I'd bought it already that this character I was playing as was supposed to be Sam Fisher, but wasn't Sam Fisher. I've literally lost compel to play the game past the intro tutorial scene. This must be how Bond fans felt going into the first switch from Sean Connery to George Lazenby.

I think cases can be made that Sam Fisher is more than Ironside.
