lack of historical accuracy

If they are going to make a movie about this, then why not at least make one that is based on facts? This case occurred in England, not in America. And from what I read about their lives after their release, I couldn't find anything factual in the movie. So, I'm confused as to why they even made it. And to be honest, I didn't think it was well made in the first place.
