why is this being made?

found this totally by accident and really wish I hadn't. I am outraged this film is being made and if any one says it nothing to do with the James ulger case they are amazingly wrong. This is pure disrespectful. Horrendous.

reply

It's James Bulger get your facts right, and some stories are ment to be told!

reply

I'm not usually phased by any film let alone just a synopsis but this seems like an extremely ill advised project. This story should not be exploitated like this, to tell this story from the point of view of the killers, albeit after the event, is very disturbing.

reply

Not without the Parent's permisson its not, it should never have been made in the first place...what next, the Madeleine McCann story ?
Show some compassion please.

reply

Holy crap I accidentally missed the 'b' from Bulger so we get ulger and it means I have my facts wrong? Get a job.

reply

straight away-the story-anyone with brains can tell its about james bulger
his parents split because of what happened-to make film-with-WOW DIFF NAMES
but same ages-then to show him dead on railway-just sick-director/writer/-should meet the parents-lets see if he would have done it then

reply

I remember this case very well. It was sickening what they animals did to that child but that's no reason not to tell the story. It's done all the time. Why should this be an exception, because you know about it? It doesn't work like that. 9/11 and all the other atrocities committed would never be put to film.

reply

Maybe you're right but I've decided that I have no reason to watch it.

I'm of the opinion that there's no explanation or excuse for what these 2 boys did beyond bad wiring, genetics, something already intricately wrong with them.
This is far beyond youthful indiscretion and they could never, ever be understood or sympathized with or rehabilitated. They should have never been released.

If this convinces others that there is such a thing as a bad seed or some people just being born sociopath/psychopath.. then so be it.

People often seem willing to make excuses when they're children involved and like to say that they didn't know what they were doing.

They knew what they were doing. They just didn't care. They, in fact, enjoyed it.

That doesn't mean it's "not their fault"..Above all else society is obliged to protect itself from the most dangerous regardless of how or why it manifest itself.

If you keep your feet firmly on the ground, you will have trouble putting on your pants.

reply

I don't think these are nice guys. I really doubt rehabilitation works either. To do that to a child takes a special type of psycho and along with peadopniles, it's something they're born with. You're probably right about them being wired wrong. A bullet in the back of the head sounds about right.

reply

Just saw this last night. Wasn't too bad. Its low budget and doesn't glorify the killers in anyway.

I actually liked it though I didn't know it was connected to a true story(not that it would have mattered).

reply

I might watch it. Thanks, man.

Did you ever catch it man? It was decent, had a special kind of low budget charm to it. Plus after the first act you forget about the glaring similarities to the actual case, then when they are released it's just wacky horror fiction.

You catch Los Ultimos Dias aka: The Last Days yet? It was good and bad there were things that needed a bit better writing, but some appear to love it. At least it's not your typical Apoc. film where everyone quickly descends into cannibalising madmen, had a message of humanity to it, although it was more of a fantasy ending that anything.

Watchin that horror musical Stage Fright now, it's a strange little horror flick, kind of silly but it has some merit.

reply

Not yet. Been catching up with Season 2 of House of Cards. I'm about to watch that new Gina Carano flick. Let me know about Stage Fright, man.

reply

I watched it. It was disturbing... I can't believe that the two little psychos were given a second chance...

can't outrun your own shadow

reply

I'm not going to watch it, I think it is exploitative and awful.

That said, their "second chance" didn't work well at all and they are both back in jail now. I'm too lazy to do the research - one of them was a total psycho/paedophile, and the other one appeared to have issues with his past and kept identifying himself. So the first was put back in to protect others/children, and the second was put back in ostensibly to protect himself. It's a weird situation.

reply

Are you serious? There HAVE been movies made about 9/11. And I'm not sure why everyone is getting all up in arms. I agree that the boys should not have been let out, but I don't necessarily think it's "exploitative" to make a movie about it. It's on right now, and I haven't seen much of it, so I won't judge either way, but there are a lot of movies made about various tragedies. It's a horrible, horrible thing, and I will never understand children being so evil, but unfortunately it's a fact of life. People make films to tell stories, and they aren't limited to just happy stories. Again, though, I haven't seen all of it, so I can't judge either way. Just think it's not necessarily "evil" to make a movie based on a tragedy, depending on how it's handled.

Besides which, I can't imagine anyone would actually sympathize with the killers.
