Did the show hint that the Christian convert mongol, Nayan, was a pedo?

I wasnt quite sure but with how he acted, and being given the daughter, and him talking about his "sin" it just seemed like he was a huge pedophile child molester rapist something or other.

reply

Yes. I'd say it was a very strong hint, tbh. He felt guilty about it, clearly, but at the same time, he wanted to believe that the girl was treated unfairly and that he was "saving" her so she could live like a princess.

reply

Yes, it was implied he was a child molestor. This is the reason he kept cutting his hand with his knife. He was punishing himself for his sinfull thought about children.

reply

It wasn't implied or hinted at, it was directly stated that he was a 'phile. Nayan himself also admitted it flat-out to the Pope and Niccolo Polo when he visited them in Palestine and told them the story about how he met Prester John.

Nayan told them he was ready to die because of his sinful predilection and was wandering the steppes with no food or water when Prester John found him, saved him and delivered him back to safety.

As for the hand-cutting, Nayan was trying to give himself a stigmata, aka the wounds that Jesus Christ suffered when he was crucified. The stigmata was considered a sign of sainthood in antiquity, and some people claimed it would just "appear" on people who were sufficiently holy, but obviously others did it to themselves.

This is also why Nayan chooses to be crucified when Kublai gives him a choice about his method of death for being a traitor, after the battle.

reply

It was implied. It was never stated that he was a pedophile. Nobody ever said he was a pedophile. It was clearly implied. Why are you even replying to me? I didn't start this thread. You should have replied to the OP.

As for the hand cutting, it was very clear that he was inflicting the wounds as a form as self punishment. If he wanted to give himself a stigmata and convince other people that he was sufficiently holy, he wouldn't have done it in front of others.

reply

It was stated directly that he had "a weakness for unspoilt flesh." Then he explained it in unambiguous detail to the Pope and Niccola Polo.

I've never heard of Christians or Catholics knifing their own palms in penance, but I have heard plenty of stories of self-inflicted stigmatas. Nayan's choice of death confirmed it.

I'm replying to you because you're making stuff up.

reply

I'm not making stuff up. There are a lot of people who inflict pain on themself in order to repent for their sins.

reply

there is a huge contingent of "Self flagellants" in the Catholic church, who inflict pain on themselves b/c god inflicted pain on Jesus.. pretty creepy stuff - god of love my butt! god of pain, wrath, and suffering is more like it -- truly made in our image: lustful, angry, violent, greedy, self-absorbed, the god of destruction whose religions are death cults that preach don't look for pleasure or rewards in the material realm, but only expect them in the afterlife, the very definition of a death cult -- going to church and Sunday school as a Christian turned me into a Buddhist, lol.. the only religion that won't fight in wars

There were words to that effect from Ahmad. I forget the exact phrase, but it was that he liked very young girls because they were unblemished or something.

reply

Ahmed said Nayan had a preference or "Unsoiled flesh"

reply

That's it. He said it in a wry way that implied Nayan is a pedo.

reply

Yeah in his first episode -- how Ahmad introduced her to him and how he looked at her.

reply

I also picked up on that, it was obvious from that scene on.

reply

I wouldn't call it a hint; it was quite explicit. He dripped blood to keep himself in check.

reply

This part confused me because nowhere in medieval times did the concept of pedophilia as a sin existed. It was common to marry very young girls in most nations all the way up to the nineteenth century. In some countries it's still fine. This part of the story was completely anachronistic and dumb considering the time period. In 1300 Mongolia they wouldn't understand the concept of pedophilia anymore than they'd understand women's rights.
