Why is this show doing so bad!? I hear it's getting cancelled!!

I heard the budget was too high and the show was getting low ratings, the ratings on IMDB seem to be fine but could be a bit higher but it seems that not a lot of people watch it. I think they overdid it with the nudity in season one but apparently season 2 got worse ratings and didn't have as much nudity either, personally I really enjoyed season 2. Why do you think not a lot of people are watching? It's similar to game of thrones and there's not many other good historical dramas out at the moment and most of the other ones are based in Europe. Anyways I hope they can make a season 3 even if it has to be the last but Netflix need to advertise better otherwise this show is doomed!

I don't think advertising is good enough, not enough people are talking about the show, like house of cards and daredevil are on Netflix too and they maybe slightly better but Marco Polo is still very good but those shows have a much much bigger audience and I think it's because they're talked about more and are covered on social media when they are released. I heard nothing about Marco Polo, I just happened to click on it on Netflix and happened to really enjoy it. Like the Marco Polo following on Twitter is 22k compared to 500k for daredevil which is ridiculous especially since the Marco Polo budget it higher!

Also too I ignored the show for a while simply because I thought it was about some European trader. It's called Marco Polo and has a white guy on the picture on Netflix. If I had known it was about the Mongols in medieval China with tons of great Kung-Fu action I would have been all over it a long time ago.

reply

That sounds kinda racist tbh. That "white guy" is not exactly blonde and blue-eyed. He has very dark features.

If you knew anything about history or Marco Polo then you knew that he would eventually reach Mongolia.

reply

The actor is blue eyed......

reply

So you have to be blonde and blue eyed to be white?

I guess I've been colored all these years and just didn't know about it then.

Idiot with the "that's racist" comment.
I think you sound kinda like a twot!

reply

Yeah, some white guy, named Marco Polo...LOL

reply

Lol I know right? Just some ordinary White guy...named Marco *beep* Polo *eye-roll*

I felt the same way, until people at work told me how good it would be. To be honest, I didn't know much about Marco Polo in history so thought it would be boring.

You would have to a completely ignorant moron not to know who Marco Polo was.

You have too e an insular American!

reply

Did you not know who Marco Polo was? Do you read?

reply

You didn't know Marco Polo had to do with China and the Mongols?

Read a *beep* book ffs.

reply

Nobody other than Netflix knows how its rating.

Additionally you would need to know the GLOBAL ratings in all 190 countries to come to a fully analysis.

The thing with Netflix is that if something performs poorly in one country, but excellent in another then it can survive.

Thats why Adam Sandler got 4 movies. It wasn't for the USA market.

reply

Thank God, it lost me after the first episode.

I agree with some of the comments here, it doesn't get nearly as much promotion as other Netflix shows, I've seen most of the other shows being promoted everywhere, and the cast for shows like Jessica Jones and Daredevil have been interviewed by all the shows like The Today Show, The Late Show with Colbert, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, etc., but I have yet to see any of the actors from this show on any talk shows! I really like this show, even though it's clear that it's not completely historically accurate, it does have lots of drama, intrigue, action, etc. I think it just needs better marketing.

Having said that, the actor that plays Jingim is ver active on the Marco Polo subReddit and said that's not true, it's not getting cancelled.

Less nudity and violence is never the answer. I thought both seasons were great but from what I hear about the plans for season 3 I am not so stoked. It sounds like Khan and the Mongols are going to take a backseat to the Christian army.

reply

If the season 3 will not come out, i will cry a lot.

I agree, a great show, and Netflix isn't doing enough to advertise it better. The acting, cinematography, and costumes are all on par with the more successful Game of Thrones, but I suspect most of the younger generation of viewers (including some of the 'professional reviewers are largely ignorant, and even allergic to real history (though this series isn't strict real history either). Given the audience base it probably wouldn't have hurt them to add a little more myth and magic, and make it sort of a "Asian GOT", if for not other reason than to give it higher ratings among the 'ignorant masses'. Ironically, if they did this the story would actually be more like the REAL Marco Polo's actual writings..... like the time, as I recall, his caravan was attacked by flying dragons! (Though I suspect he said this more to dissuade competitors from traveling the Silk Road and make the story more exciting). Even if this isn't popular enough with the American audience, let's hope Netflix has a large enough, more sophisticated international audience to insure its survival.
