'From Alaska to Panama'

Last I checked, Panama was in Central America...

Central America isn't a continent, which this show is focusing on. It's just the region of the Americas that is in the middle.

reply

Does "Panama" come to your mind when someone mentions "North America"?

Of course - why wouldn't it?

reply

Well it should...North America consists of Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. Hawaii is a state that belongs to the USA, but it is not considered to be North American, but rather a Pacific Island. The land between Mexico and Colombia is technically Central American and should not be associated with North America in terms of geography.

I am so smart, the only thing I can't comprehend is how stupid everyone else is

reply

But as someone else pointed out, Central America is not a continent. http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/na.htm#.UaJgo9hTH5A Britannica agrees.

reply

Central America is not a continent. Pretty much everyone knows this.

reply

Judging from this thread and the other one just like it, "pretty much everyone" does not equal "everyone." LOL

reply

What does it not being a continent have to do with anything?? The title of the show is not "North America: The Continent". As a professional geographer, the show should only include Alaska, the continental USA, and Mexico. Personally I don't think Mexico should be part of North America, but that is another story.

reply

Your lack of knowledge makes me doubt you are a "professional geographer." You made an error showing your ignorance and are trying to back up your story with false credentials and semantics. No, the show is not called North America: The Continent." That would be redundant because North America IS a continent; it goes without saying. The fact that the title doesn't include "The Continent" doesn't change the geographic boundaries. BTW, the USGS also disagrees with you on what constitutes North America.

reply

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH Learn to read!!!! This has NOTHING to do with continents!!!!!! The show is called North America. America is divided into three sections. North America = Alaska, USA, and Mexico. Central America = Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. South America = Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana.

I have worked for ESRI for the last 6 years. Don't argue with me!!! It's like arguing string theory with Michio Kaku.

I am so smart, the only thing I can't comprehend is how stupid everyone else is

reply

Perhaps YOU should learn to read. The show is called North America. Your semantics don't change the fact that the North America's southernmost boundary is the border between Panama and Columbia.

reply

Would somebody please hit this guy...

reply

You just lost.

reply

Exactly the type of response I would expect from the likes of you.

reply

I think we're getting punked.

North America, the planet’s 3rd largest continent, includes (23) countries and dozens of possessions and territories. It contains all Caribbean and Central America countries, Canada, Mexico, the United States of America, as well as Greenland - the world’s largest island.

reply

Holy crap you people just cannot comprehend simple things. The Continent of North America has nothing to do with what I was saying. The makers of the show obviously didn't have Central America or the Caribbean in mind or else they would have spent more than 5 minutes covering it. 80% of the time has been in the US, 15% in Canada, and 5% in Central America so far. If they really wanted to cover all of North America as a continent they would have spent a lot more time in the tropical jungles of Central America. There is a ton of wildlife there.

I really hope nobody else says anything more about this...

reply

So you're not upset that they included Central America as part of North America, you're upset because they spent very little time covering it?

reply

No, I don't think they should have included it in the first place. It should be focused on Alaska, USA, and Mexico. They haven't shown Mexico at all as of yet. I think they should have called the show "America", and included all of both continents, then divide the episodes into the different regions. It is called North America, but it is basically just Alaska, Canada, and the Western USA.

reply

Well there are some more episodes left, so maybe they'll talk more about Mexico and Central America. Or maybe not, I don't know for sure. But Central America is part of North America, and maybe the brief mention of it was to just show how big North America is.

reply

WTF?

Um what about Canada? It's pretty hard to miss.

Wow, just wow...

reply

That's a stupid question.. It's a nature program about North America, therefore it's understood that it would include ALL of North America, as any educated and reasonable person would know... If you have some hangups or prejudices about the political divisions of North America, well, that's your problem.
