How did the original end?

Okay so I just finished the first season and really like it and it's a shame it won't have a second season especially since it left us hanging in the finale. How did the original end? Did Thomas die? Did they ever catch Catherine's stepdad?

reply

The original ended with Thomas being killed and Catherine leaving the police force because of it. Thomas and his son were chained to a bomb. Catherine was able to saw the boy free but couldn't make it back in time to free Thomas.

While she had been molested in the original, they didn't focus on it.

Thank you so much for the reply! Really appreciate it. It's sad to hear that Thomas dies in the original :( I really liked him in this version and I loved his platonic relationship with Catherine and how they're cut from the same cloth. It sucks that we'll never know if she get's her step father arrested or not since it got cancelled.

Oh my God!  Seriously? Thomas gets killed? Do not want.

The original series also got canceled after one season of 10 episodes (which makes me wonder why someone thought a remake would be successful).

However, unlike the US version, the original was able to wrap up the story with a theatrical film.

And I'd like to add that the original was much worse than the US version.

Even though original series are brilliant (The Killing, Bridge) and remakes suck.
Wait though, American version of The Killing is actually good, so it's just Bridge.

Anyway Den som dræber was boring, and two main leads very unlikable. While Chloë Sevigny and James D'Arcy totally rocked.

I'm the exact opposite. I think the original was much better in Those Who Kill and I preferred the original characters than the remake. I really disliked Chloë - she lacked the subtlety of the wounded child.

It seemed she was screaming to everyone how much she was abused that her character failed to show the deep-rooted pain most abused people deal with later in life.

Thomas' character was OK in the US remake, but I kept getting distracted by his American accent. He did a great job with the accent, but after watching him in Broadchurch, it was hard to get past his accent.

Seriously, Chloë sucked! Her character had more traits of the cop in The Bridge.

Completely disagree that the Danish characters were unlikeable. Schaeffer in particular was much more interesting in the Danish version, which had better stories and a filmic quality. The US version's Space Cowboy storyline was OTT and ridiculous.
