There was a children's book

Does anyone else remember the book "Escape from Tomorrow" by Sereta Lanning? It was a bout a red jelly-like substance that converted water into more of itself. I would kill people who touched it, turning the water in their bodies into red jelly. It was sort of like Ice-9 in Cat's Cradle.
