How did Jason get diabetes

I was just curious how is that Jason split personality caused to him to get diabetes even though he didn't get it before.

reply

I dont think he actually has it. It was what he told the hospital so he could get off from working nights.

reply

lmao - really? You need to watch things properly op.

The reason people think he has diabetes is because he told people he has diabetes both as a way to get out of working when Ian was in charge and as an excuse when Ian does something crazy or violent. The machine I suspect is testing either some increased hormone levels or some brain chemistry changes that occur when Ian is awake. His changes are not simply psychologically based but are a result of some brain condition or deformity that they are trying to cure.

The machine is reading his blood in his fingertip. Like I said, in the series after the switchover from Jason to Ian there is both a psychological and physiological change, both the mind and the body of Ian and Jason changes. They have been running tests on the guy for years now so we have to assume that they found either a hormone level or some other chemical difference in between the two characters when they are in charge of the body. So the machine is set up to test the blood of Jason and Ian tell the difference between the two characters giving a negative response for Ian. We don;t really know what the machine is reading but it is reading something in the blood.

Of course there is a second possibility that the machine doesn't actually do anything and is just setup to a clock that will always give a negative reading past a certain time.

We don't know how the machine got into play. There are a number of ways that they got the machine and got it into the hospital. He could have contracted out a special machine to measure this level and then requested it be put in the OR and be used exclusively for him alone. He or his friend could have replaced the inner workings of a normal with a custom machine, No one is really going to be that curious about a diabetes machine. You assume he needed to be sneaky about it but machines come and go all the time in a hospital and no one is really going to be that curious about a single diabetes machine. He also has privileges so any request he makes is likely going to be granted.

It's interesting that his boss told him that his drug test came back clean but didn't mention that she now knows he doesn't have diabetes.

I didn't say I had the answer to where the machine came from, in fact I specifically stated that we don't know how the machine came into play. But I did say that it was measuring something in the blood. I was only postulating regarding its origins. But they had protocols so sometime he must have made specific requests or demands involving that machine.

I think the reason the machine is larger than a normal machine is probably because it doesn't actually take any blood it probably measures it through infrared or some other sensor. The stick test requires a blood sample and has a measured chemical reaction but a machine doing infrared measuring chemical levels in the blood without an actual sample may need to be bigger.

I dont think Jason was ever tested for it until the last episode. It was just the excuse he used to get off from working nights.

I think you guys might be reading too much into this whole thing. The machine he's sticking his finger into prior to surgery is just testing his blood sugar levels. Because he's not actually diabetic he's always going to get the "green light" since his blood sugar levels are normal. There was one episode in which his blood sugar was abnormal, which was caused by him injecting himself with insulin in advance to ensure Ian wasn't allowed to perform surgery. He's not using his connections to get a rigged machine, nor does anyone other than Ruben know about his condition so no one is looking for ways to differentiate between Jason and Ian.

reply

Right, the aggression from Ian's personality affected his body chemistry in which the rage raised his adrenalin levels which looks like a spike in blood sugar when he was tested even though there is no actual sugar increase -so he was given insulin that he didn't need which caused him to pass out as it overdosed him.

Exactly Nikkad77!
The machine is simply a glucometer that checks the good Dr's blood sugar before surgery. Where in the WORLD did thses posts come from reg. the mystery of the machine?? LMAO!! Talk about reaching for a consipiracy!
