If the Purge were real, wouldn't it only last one night?

If the Purge were real, it would start and not stop. It would continue until a lot of the world's population would be dead, and the world become an Apocalyptic Wasteland. I'm sure someone with a Joker-like attitude would take the opportunity to storm the Pentagon or hijack a Submarine and unleash Nuclear Armageddon upon the world... I know that's what I'd do is they started the Purge. No one deserves to live in a world where they think the Purge is a good thing.

Reading the Headscratchers on TVTropes really puts into perspective how many plot holes this movie series has.

EDIT: Also, on a different note, what's stopping someone from murdering a person on the regular day, hiding the crime, and then if it's discovered, saying that you did it on Purge Night?

yeah, one of the many major flaws of the film. they seriously try to sell the "new founding fathers" explanation, relying on the idea that american stupidity trumps basically every other human emotion, including greed and lust for revenge.

the idea(s) that people ...
a) would all be out killing each other, instead of just spend the time looting and maybe even overthrowing the government
b) people would just stop their bloodlust at a certain amount of time
c) there would be no repercussions for a whole year, for everything that was done at the purge
... completely ignore(s) everything we know about human behavior.

another quick one: so, without the needed months of rebuilding everything damaged by the purge, life just gos on? really? and the government pays for rebuilding all that shit?

That is interesting. They definitely don't want to go through that type of crimes you mention or should I say more like terrorism. If the movie showed terrorism then it would be a totally diffrent genre. It would be action movie not horror. Maybe that scenario exist in another part of US in the same universe, maybe the government already secure all transportation and their military vehicles.
