How this movie snuck by the Castro brothers?

I would have thought the Castro brothers or their loyal henchman would've required periodic screening of the flick and ensured the movie never turned out the way it did.

You've never been to Cuba, have you?

1. You must be thinking of North Korea, the land of "juche" regime of the Kim dynasty. Cuba isn't anywhere as tyrannical or Sovietesque Communist.

2. Nothing in this film is particularly critical or damning of the Cuban government. It also doesn't make Cuba let alone the Cuban government or the Castros "look bad."

3. The course of events depicted involves an outcome favorable to the Cuban government, in that it is capable of functioning as a discouragement of the protagonists' actions.

4. The filmmakers could've seen to it that the film was processed, edited and published somewhere other than Cuba, while having provided a fake script to cast and crew.

Films made in Cuba have been a great source of income for the Castro brothers since the Soviet Union dissolved and the Russians no longer sent economic aid to the satellite island. Judging from the output of Cuban films in the last 25 years it seems the scripts are no longer censored. Anything goes, anything except direct criticism of the Castro brothers.
