Saw this today

So i went to see this monstrous dribble today in a special screening. The only good thing about this story is Emily Browning, she is also the worst. I won't spoil this movie as i enjoyed some parts, but this movie should have been called 'Depression & Attempted Suicides of 1900's teenager' that or 'Look at me pout for 1 hour 40'.

I dearly love a laugh.

There's also this review. I wouldn't be too discouraged. My feeling is that this will get mixed reviews from people. Some people can get into period piece romances, and some can't. This review is really positive.

Yes, what a disappointing movie. I was lured to this dribble by Dan Stevens as you may have guessed, I am a fan of Downton Abbey. Funny that his project right after Downton Abbey would be a character that is almost identical to his former role of Matthew Crawley. The difference here is that the people and environment surrounding him are excruciatingly dull without any charm. Cornwall looks nice, but the whole town feel blend and unexciting. Again, dull.

The start of the movie took too long to develop. Going in the movie, I knew nothing of the characters and being a pragmatic North American with rather average English mastery, I didn't understand who they were beside some type of bohemian friends liking poetry. I only realize until much further that Mannings was a painter. All along, I thought he was a poet. That just shows the intro lingered way too long describing their milieu without telling the basic in a clear way. Once I got the big picture, things instead went too quickly and I was left puzzled at what just happened. Why is Florence accepting the painter's proposal? Since when are they in love? Is she marrying him just because he is going to be famous? Then there's poor Evans as hesitant as Matthew Crawley missing his chance with Florence. I would have felt sympathy for him if I cared, but I didn't. I just don't see what he sees in her nor anyone in this movie for that matter.

At the end of the movie, people are supposed to feel sad for their lost love but I felt absolutely nothing. This movie is really much ado about nothing.

Yeah, with this and SLEEPING BEAUTY it doesn't seem Browning is too attracted to happy films. I think she's amazing, but I wish she did different films. Not nec Hollywood stuff, but something like a heist film or something with a stronger throughline.
