Antonioni must be turning in his grave.

After all the hard work Antonioni did to reinvent film language, and in the wake Bellocchio's more substantial films, this strained parable (with an eye focused on a relatively mainstream audience) is insufferable. It has valid points to make, but as a work of cinema it is heavily compromised by its (albeit important and justifiable) political agenda. Ultimately, Bellocchio's film is more of a tract than a potent work of political art, despite its aspirations. 'Dormant Beauty' indeed. A disappointing work from the man who made the much more potent (and still relevant) FISTS IN THE POCKET.
