NOOOOO Season 4 is only 6 episodes!!!

according to the list here, we have to wait till 2017 for Season 5... ugh...it's going to kill me....

and my brother is going to be really sad, as I just talked him into binge watching the first 3 seasons....

I really was hoping for 8 episodes like the first 3 seasons...

I just this minute sat down looking forward to episode 7, which I'm sure IMDB had on its list for season 4....sad it's not there, but understandable now I look back to how last week's ended!
Now I have the rest of the year to ponder on how they'll replace the missing character... brilliant show though!!!

seriously I can't believe they did that... and we will have to see if Reid will be a fugitive.. maybe he and Matilda will join Susan and Jackson on the run?!?!?

reply

Really cruel way to end the fourth series! I was expecting this series to be eight episodes, but alas.

Reid told Matilda to stay with Sgt. Drummond. He told her to pretend she doesn't want anything to do with him anymore for her own safety. It's pretty clear that Reid, Susan and Jacksom will be fugitives when the fifth series starts. Reid and Drake both became wanted men in the last episode.

At least we know the show is coming back. Yet a whole year wait for so few episodes is a bit anti-climatic.

While it seemed clear they killed him off (and burned his world with Rose), I wouldn't be surprised if they pull a last minute miracle, like a blood transfusion (did it earlier in the season). They faded to black quickly, something could still be done. Or maybe it's wishful thinking on my part.

When I checked, eight episodes were listed. But Amazon UK has only 6. When I looked again on IMDb, six are listed. 

I contacted Amazon in relation to series 4 as they had said there were to be 8 episodes.

Their reply was that the 2 outstanding episodes cannot be aired yet because of a license dispute. Apparently there's an argument between BBC America and Amazon. I was assured that the two episodes not aired yet do exist and should be available to stream very soon.

As much as I hope there are more episodes forthcoming soon, from Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ripper_Street_episodes):

A fourth series, again produced by Amazon Prime Instant Video, began airing weekly on the service, beginning 15 January 2016. The series was originally expected to consist of eight episodes,[5] but ended up featuring six[citation needed], including a feature-length (130 min.) premiere. The series has been renewed for a fifth series

We can't trust Wikipedia completely, but it makes sense (with info currently available). Or if there are actually 2 more episodes, too many will think that S4 already ended (with most sources listing 6).

There is also that they might have turned those 2 episodes into the kernel for S5 (the premise of all of them being on the run seems a bit difficult to sustain for a whole season, if that is the plan).

I believe the UK release was 7 episodes.

Episode 1 was 2 hours long. I'm not sure if that is meant to be 2 episodes in one, or if there really are a full episode 7 and 8 separate from the 6 aired in the UK.

Clearly he's going to be in series 5 as a werewolf!

Everyone leaves him for dead, he wakes up, has gone crazy and spends decades in those dark tunnels. He eventually becomes a pale, bald, naked creature that because of the wound to his neck mostly hacks out what sounds like "golem." On occasion he surfaces looking for Rose, his Precious.
