Dan and Chloe

Literally belong together. I usually don't care for TV relationships but there was so much chemistry and wasn't just based around sex. Too bad it's not real.

reply

Maybe they will be together one day. Chloe is the direct heir of Edith Crowley, so anything is possible.

reply

goddammit woman, you can't even spell your own grand daugthers last name.

reply

Ha ha!

At least she married well so I don't have to worry about her.

reply

I didn't see the chemistry really and that's my main problem with the season. He had more chemistry with his parole officer in season 3.

reply

bahahahahahhahahaha, i didn't even think of that,
but you are right, she definately had something going for him psychologically

reply

Agreed. I felt like Dan and Chloe had anti-chemistry. She seemed like the odd one out of a show that overall had an excellent cast from the mains to the supporting actors. Not sure why they picked this actress to play this role.

reply

I think the major flaw exists in the role itself, and may not be the actress' fault. I'm told she's quite effective in Masters of Sex.

It's exceedingly hard to have chemistry when a role itself lacks substance. Chemistry doesn't only spring from the pre-existing substance of the actors; the other half of the mix comes from the pre-existing substance of their roles.

To fully exploit their innate chemistry as individuals involved with one another, actors need substantial roles through which to channel that engagement. Chemistry is a kind of glue; to be fully engaged with one another actors rely on the strength of their roles; they can't do it all themselves. When they try, it feels forced.

Chloe seems artificial to me because she's too obviously designed to hustle Daniel to his destination. If she isn't wholly a cipher, she's at least a blatant convenience. Her role screams "Writer!"

In another show she wouldn't stand out so much. It's not exactly uncommon in mainstream drama to find the convenient girlfriend role, the gal whose purpose in life is obviously limited to delivering the guy to his destiny. Chloe is the counselor girlfriend. She makes few demands of Daniel. She's bland, has no edge. She's too ideally accomodating. How do you make chemistry out of that?
