Why would an Alien in need of help send an ENCRYPTED message?
Well kiddies?
shareBecause it's not real?
What do I win?
Stoop, Nothing for now. Let's see who else can come up with an answer.
Good but ambiguous answer.
It wasn't encrypted. It was a map of where Echo's pod was located. It just took the kids a while to work that out because it didn't look like a typical Google Maps' image.
I just watched the first few minutes to make sure, and at the 3:42 mark we get our first look of a "barfed" phone, and it's the map: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_ta4EIxBmQ
No, you're not being Rick-rolled :)
Then someone else on the internet responding to their posting pictures of their phone sent them an actual map confirming what it was.
shareProbably for the same reason this UFO buried itself in the ground at 20,000 mph and nobody noticed! What a crap of a movie. I can only hope SAG is collecting and burning all cards of anyone involved in this on grounds of endangering mankind.
shareKirk: Excuse me, but what would GOD want with a starship?
shareLOL

I thought it was pretty obvious. The little alien bug thing sent the 'encrypted' message because only the kids were/would be smart enough to decrypt it. Because all the parents and adults were complete morons or just bad evil people and have nothing but bad intentions towards cute little alien bug things.
This is the rule of YA entertainment.
Adults are stupid or nefarious or just plain inept and cant be trusted.
Kids are the only ones who can save the day etc.
Because children are naturally curious about things and would seek adventure, whereas adults would just consider their technology broken and get new stuff, which kids can't afford.
shareBecause to reach the right person!
Remember it was shot down by those military freaks!
