This is why...

...you don't hire female directors.

I know, I know, that sounds like I'm trying to be a provocative troll. And the comment IS misogynistic, I'll admit.

But it's true - female directors are mediocre to bad. There is only one exception - Kathryn Bigelow.

Everybody else..I mean, from overrated, awful Nora Ephron to Catherine Hardwicke's incompetent Twilight film to Mimi Leder...more mediocrity.

And that's where the problem started in this film...the fish rots from the head.

I'm not sure what it is, but they can't seem to make it work.

I mean, this film cost SIX MILLION to make, and it made 32 thousand! That's a massive flop!!

Someone out there has a 6 million hole in their pocket. Ouch. Serves them right for not getting a good director.

Hey now, "Lost in Translation" is a great damn movie, directed by Sofia Coppola! It's slow, and you have to watch it at night or you won't be able to get into it (seriously I tried watching it during the day, it was ALL wrong), but it's swell.

And... and then there's... and, um... well that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Crap. Now I'm thinking I'd better take up directing, because I'm amazing and we need better representation. <.<

To be fair though, there aren't many that even exist. I mean if we make a time-machine and fast-forward a hundred years so the directing's shared 50/50, I betcha it'll be about even. At least I hope so. Because you know, like 90% of ALL movies suck anyway really, so it's not like men are doing an across-the-board smash-up job. They've just got their fingers in more pies. ;)

Love your comment Hal, and I'll toss in a Penny for your thoughts. Marshall directed one of the legendary baseball movies of all time, A League of Their Own, as well as Awakenings and Big.
Lisa Cholodenko did The Kids Are All Right
Gurinder Chadha did the only soccer film many of us have seen, Bend It Like Beckham
Lone Scherfig did An Education
Jane Campion did The Piano
Gillian Armstrong's long list includes Mrs. Soffel
Martha Coolidge did Rambling Rose

and on and on.............

I have seen enough to know I have seen too much. -- ALOTO

Oh dear, I haven't seen most of the things you listed! Time to go add to the list.

Heh, "Penny."
