Why did they make Superman a baddie?

I mean Superman is the original Superhero so for me it seemed really stupid to make him a baddie in this game anyone else any thoughts on this?

Did ypu play the game? There are 2 Supermans.

and it follows the Justice Lords storyline "A Better World" from season 2 of Justice League...I suggest you watch that, its a good set of episodes.

Although the more I play the game, am I the only one that feels like Superman is throwing a MASSIVE tantrum...That said, I'd maybe be doing the same thing if I were him and basically just had a massive "Killing Joke" played on me by The Joker.

They did it because it is interesting. He hardly ever is portrayed as someone who is flawed and vulnerable so this is a nice change of pace. Also, how can you get a more intimidating villain than Superman? He's practically unbeatable.

They made the Superman in ONE dimension a baddie; they didn't make "the" Superman a baddie. In that ONE dimension, not only Superman was a baddie, but also a number of the other traditional "heroes" (some of them were 50/50), and a number of the traditional DC "villains" were a little more reasonable.

Because who else on the roster was powerful enough to be the "Shao Khan" of the game? Batman always prepped for when superman would snap..this storyline shows us how it'd play out if he did. It really shows how far that superman fell during that part where he talks about losing Lois and Batman says I've lost family too and then implied that it was a poor reason to turn that way..then superman pitched a fit "JOKER MADE ME INTO A WEAPON!"wah.

Because there is little else you can do with Superman. He was created during the 1930s to became a symbol of American strength and purity of spirit. An All American Hero that stood up for the world entire and gave people something to believe in during hard times.

The problem with making Superman such a symbol however, meant that he couldn't be flawed in any way beyond his weakness to the traditional green Kryptonite which only weakens him physically.

When the Golden Age of comics ended and the Silver/ Bronze and Modern ages rolled in, the stories became progressively darker, forcing writers to come up with new story lines to give Superman a less one dimensional characterization. However because of his original status as a true symbol of purity, honesty and strength, most attempts to humanize him have to be done with rather cliche plots or alternate realities, such as Lois dying and him becoming evil. However these story lines have to fight against 70 years of status symbolism, hordes of hard-core DC followers and comic book fans in general, making it almost impossible for him to be anything but the Superman he was originally created to be. An eternal symbol of Hope

"Even though you've been raised as a human being, you are not one of them. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason, above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you... my only son."

reply

Actually, they did it because the writer ripped off the premise from the Squadron Supreme mini-series from the 80s.

Because it's the only way to make this mary sue jesus that is superman interesting

Because Superman is powerful, if he turned bad we'd all be in trouble.

Player 1: "Hey bro wanna play the storyline of this game?"

Player 2: "No thanks I'm good to wail on you till morning."

Player 1: "But the storyline is good!"

Player 2: "Well if it's so good, what duh fvvvck is it about?"

Player 1: "Superman turns bad!"

Player 2: "Oh sh't! Lemme see lemme see!"

Not only that, but it makes sense from a storyline point of view, which is more than can be said for Batman turning bad at the end of dark knight returns where he kills Joker

reply

Yarmen12: You should re-watch/read The Dark Knight Returns... he doesn't kill the Joker. That was the whole point.

but he broke his neck, trying to kill him, then Joker finished the job.

reply

Yes, in a fit of rage he wanted to kill him for all the lives he's taken. But he's Batman, that's his one rule: no killing. So he stopped himself before he did. Only Joker wanted the last laugh and his final joke was to make everyone else believe Batman did kill. That's the difference between him and Superman: Supes walks in the light and with the law but at the end of the day, he would kill, as shown in the comics, movies etc., and it's why they complement each other very well as characters, and why when they do fight it's so good to watch.

It's the best multiverse storyline. And in other DC animated movies, there are bad supermans. It's not the only one, but better than any others.
