David's accent took me out of the movie

The character who played David had possibly the worst British accent I've ever seen committed to film. Was it that important to the production that he be from England? Did the director not have an ear for just how atrocious it sounded? It was like watching very bad amateur community theater, and was a real distraction for me.

Maybe because I'm not native English speaker, I found David's English easy to listen and understand, contrary to 90% of Americans who speaks as if they had a hot potato in their mouths, and I'm lost without transcribbed subtitles.

I think you might want to watch the movie again. The David character was not British. He was however using an exaggerated theatrical voice which I've heard some ESL teachers use.

Yes, that's what I thought too. He did it on purpose so he could be better understood :)
