Danica McKellar (What Else?)

Very mature (voluptuous) and does a nice job carrying the film through some dull points. I wonder if real Tasmanian ranger uniforms are that tight. Loses the Australian accent quickly but is extremely sexy with it early in the film. Love the flamethrower scene! Too bad she couldn't have done it in thigh boots and bustier. Maybe in the sequel... Kiwi Lucy Lawless would have be a good alternative choice. She would have been able to sustain the accent (not that many North Americans can distinguish Aus/NZ).

This was a decent film IMO by SyFy's sake. I did enjoy seeing Scott McNeil, though.

I agree. This was actually a decent horror movie. Not great, but definitely watchable. I might have changed the ending. It might have been really good with a different ending. Other than that, it was a good creature chase movie. CGI wasn't great, but at least they didn't rely on it too much. Some of the feasting scenes took place in low light, which helped to obscure the inadequate CGI.

I wish Syfy would make more movies at the level of this one. I don't really remember cringing at any scenes. I was actually grossed out by a couple scenes, which for a horror movie is a good thing. (I'm not even a horror fan.) In most of the Syfy movies, I usually laugh at the death scenes because they are so cheesy.

I thought the character was supposed to be American. She said that she only traveled to Australia for her academic research.

reply

That's true, excalibur. I'm just now watching it and the teen tourist at the center near the first actually asked Danica, "You're from the States, aren't you?"

I didn't know Ohno was going to be in this, and when I saw he was I figured they were going to make him one of the stars...but...well, you know.

I'm actually going to watch this. Some of the comments are fairly favorable and well, Danica's in it so that's good enough for me.

I rated it a 7. The CGI is weak in a few places, but other than that, I liked the movie. I might have changed the ending a bit (or a lot), and I think they should have featured Apolo in another scene or two. I guess he was only on the set for a limited amount of time.

reply

Yeah, I ended up enjoying it. I liked the shot of the moon and the cliff at the end. You're right, the CGI was dodgy but the creatures reminded me almost exactly of the devil dogs from Ghostbusters, so I was laughing at that, imagining them to be the same creatures.

The creatures seemed to vary in strength. The one at the end was really strong, surviving a lot of damage but hey, it's the SyFy Channel, so I just went with it. Good fun after all was done.

I gave it 8, mainly because it deserves a 6-7 ish and not the low score it has now.

Mike Dopud was good as always, the guy has charisma.

Danica was just hot, her chest seem to swell in some scenes, and that beautiful hair and the great body and cute face, all good horror movies has at least one babe that can carry half the movie by herself but I was surprised to see her that attractive.

CGI not great but I've seen worse and like someone mentioned: They got away with it okay and the plot was decent.

I enjoyed it.

I missed the scene you reference. There is no doubt that her character had (or faked) an Australian accent at the beginning and end of the film. And why would an American be serving as an Australian law enforcement officer (gun and all)? Perhaps they needed an armed officer and all of the Australian candidates fainted at the sight of a handgun?

I'm not sure why Danica was cast anyway. Couldn't they find a Canadian actress with a nice rack who needed work? And please no hassling on the last point - it was quite obvious that there were two uncredited co-stars that were highlighted at every opportunity.

reply

She wasn't law enforcement; she was a park ranger. Even then, more of a tourist guide. The guy with the pony tail who actually arrested the illegal base jumping crew seemed to be law enforcement.

reply

A tour guide that pulls out a .45 pistol? I think not. She had some sort of police powers. Even if we go with the run of the mill park ranger, I find it odd that a foreigner would be hired for such a government job.

reply

Well, in real life, the Queensland (Australia) tourist bureau ran a worldwide contest to hire someone for "The Best Job in the World": a one-year assignment as caretaker for coastal islands in Queensland while helping to promote Queensland tourism by blogging, exploring and engaging people through social media. Ben Southall of the UK won the contest.

Danica's character may have been partly influenced by that tourist promotion and job. So the character's circumstances are not really that fanciful.

reply

Did the job entail carrying a large caliber semi-automatic pistol? (Or require a bodacious set of ta-tas?) There can be no doubt that she held some sort of police (broadly defined) position. Australia barely allows its own citizens to carry firearms on the job. Is an American college student going to be permitted to do so? Anyone? Anyone?

reply

Looking at Danica and her implant enhanced chest was the only thing that kept me watching. Horrible CGI yet again. The story was halfway decent

reply

lol. She never has an Australian accent in the film.

reply

Well, perhaps I convinced myself because of the setting. I only perceived it at the beginning and end of the film. To be frank, I did not initially realize it was Danica and thought - "Gee who is this Australian chick?" I will listen more closely next viewing. I still don't understand why an American would be employed as a law enforcement officer/ranger by any government in Australia. Was this explained? (I did miss the first few minutes).

reply

There's nothing in this movie to convince me that she's had a boob job (perhaps there is elsewhere). It just looks like a combination of tight top and push-up bra.

reply

She never had an Aussie accent in it. She was questioned by one of the girls she was lecturing to whether she was from the States. I don't think there was ever an intent to pass her off as an Aussie. Either way, Dancia is so hot!

reply

She was good! I laughed at a few facial expressions that she made, but other than that she did pretty good

Life isn't a garden, so stop acting like a hoe

reply

Can we get back to talking about her chest?

reply

They're real, and they're spectacular

reply

Watched the first 10 minutes and she's absolutely worst actress ever! She's mumbling her lines like a retard. I don't find her hot a all so her rack didn't do anything for me :/

reply

Nothing else, but Danica McKellar is enough (as long as you're straight)

reply

Seeing her in this movie I cant help but think of the playmate Miriam Gonzalez. She does resemble her.
