Making it a musical was a HUGE mistake!

This was one butchered musical! The Meryl Streep character is the only interesting thing about the movie. I can't even write a lengthy review because the movie was definitely a huge fail in my opinion. I won't be watching this again.

There were parts in the movie that DID NOT NEED SINGINGGG...oh my goodness. I hate that shyt! I have to nominate Into the Woods and Rock of Ages for the worst musicals of all time.

This would have been a success if it was a regular movie without the nauseating singing going on.

If it was just a regular movie no singing then it wouldn't be into the woods.

It was a musical done wrong. There are tons of musicals including classics such as Mary Poppins that did a much better job than this crappy musical. You have to agree that alot of the singing that occurred in Into the Woods was horrible!!!!

reply

No one has to agree with you. Some of us have been fans of the musical for over two decades.

reply

You are not forced to agree with my opnion.

reply

And yet, if I may quote you, you said:

You have to agree that alot of the singing that occurred in Into the Woods was horrible!!!!

Hence, I said that no one has to agree with you. I didn't think there was really a bum singer in the bunch, which is rare for film musicals these days. The weakest singer in the film was Johnny Depp, but we already knew what he could do from Sweeney Todd, and he did pretty much the same thing here. Plus he only had the one song.

But if you were referring to the songs, not the singing, I'll disagree again. I think these are some of Sondheim's best songs. It's a score I've known and loved for a very long time and have had time to listen to it sung by many different singers and hear new things in it every time. New discoveries about how the music relates to the storytelling, how themes link the characters, and yet how they can also differ from character to character. I find it to be deep and complex, and incredibly moving every time I hear it.

Again, the movie was very bad. That opinion hasn't changed.

reply

Not trying to change your opinion. Just trying to have a discussion. I assumed that's why you came toa discussion board. Pardon me if that assumption was wrong.

reply

No i don't agree with you but it's your opinion and i have mine

It was a musical from the beginning. If you hate musicals, then I suggest you do your research before doling out your hard-earned cash for "shyt" you hate.

Yeah, they're dead, they're...all messed up!

1. You are an idiot because I didn't say I dislike musicals.
2. You are an idiot because where does it say in my thread I spent money to see this movie.
3. You are an idiot because your post sums up you don't read on a regular basis.

FYI Mary Poppins did not begin life as a musical on Broadway. It was a very unmusical children's book. Ditto Bambi, Peter Pan etc. Into the Woods can only be compared to things like Oklahoma, Annie Get your Gun. It is a filmed musical and I doubt Walt would have selected it.

A. Where in my post did I claim that you dislike "musicals"?

2. You are an idiot because where does it say in my thread I spent money to see this movie.

B. The above is a question, and should have a question mark at the end of it, not a period. But, yeah--I'm the idiot.

3. You are an idiot because your post sums up you don't read on a regular basis.

C. See "A."

D. See "B."

E. Marvel at the sweet, sweet irony.

Everybody's a critic these days.

"Forget it, Jake. It's the internet."

It wasn't the best musical. It reminded me a little of les Miserales with the nearly constant singing. Which is bad because les Miserales is probably my favourite musical so it's a horrible comparison.

But everyone sung well, which is really rare for film musicals. And the songs were mostly pretty good. Plus Meryl Streep constantly popping up made me laugh.

reply

They didn't 'make' anything into a musical; it was ALREADY a musical, that they chose to adapt...

So basically, what you're saying is that they should never have turned this into a movie... That's fine - but what about all the people who are not you, who actually liked or might like the source material?

Not every movie is for everybody. The fact that this movie wasn't for you is not its fault.

It is an adaptation of a musical. Of course it is going to be a musical.

It's that man again!!

That's like saying the people who first invented the concept of bottled water were wrong to make it wet. Water already was wet. Into The Woods was already a musical.

reply

It was a musical to start with you twit....the only part you liked is the part that actually sucks Meryl is trash.
