Factitious Disorder.
He probably suffered/suffers from Factitious disorder combined with other psychological disorders a personality disorder and/or some form of mental illness.
It's become commonplace for people to exaggerate and even out right lie over the Internet. All of those people don't suffer from the disorder- but in Thomas' case, it was pretty extreme so I'd say it's more likely than not that he has one or more personality disorders, one of which being factitious disorder.

I don't know that I'd say he had a disorder. He seemed to be a middle-aged man who was very dissatisfied with himself and his life and took his online role-playing games way too far.
shareI agree. He didn't have a mental disorder per se because he only created the fake account to fool the girl/mother (who was suffering from a disorder). Some people create fake accounts for no reason other than to build themselves up.
