ive got 2 things to say about this movie and wondered if anybody else..

..feels the same way. First of all I found Chris a really cold character and somebody hard to find sympathy with. The only times I had sympathy were the scenes where he shot and killed the boy and then the second time when he came close to doing it to another one. The final scene also made me feel uncomfortable I don't know if it was intentional but when he was going through the living room with the handgun telling the kids to sshhh and went to the kitchen and pointed the gun at his wife and said drop your drawers I thought maybe it was a mistake with that scene I don't know if it was supposed to be unnerving to the viewer as maybe we were meant to believe he had flipped and was going to kill her or if we were supposed to think it was funny. Also something that just came to mind was the fake baby they used I'm sorry but it was obvious to me it wasn't real and wonder how many other viewers picked up on it it was cringeworthy

The writer likely wanted to perplex the audience with the six gun hold up scene. It may have never happened.

Soldiers need to have steely nerves at times and this does not draw sympathetic warm feelings.

reply

fair point but you didn't really get to know him before he joined the forces maybe if we got to know him before hand and seen the changes as he spent time in the forces we might have had more compassion or sympathy for him

reply

My wife loves that !!!!a Texas Thang I guess

reply

Well Texas has a gun culture. In the big cities, guns are rarely seen.

reply

Never give a pistol or rifle to a Marxist. They are irresponsible masters of chaos.

Anyway, because we did not have much history on Chris, The gun scene in the kitchen gave me doubt but transfixed me as to what kind of guy he was. It was a pivotal moment. He turned out to be playful, but leaving the pistol cocked put me in fear, dangling over a cliff as to what next could happen. Would that pistol accidently kill someone? I asked.

reply

That scene allows the viewer to quickly have several interpretations. This heightens tensions in the viewer. Perhaps Hitchcock had similar scenes. It is a scene that can reach the entire audience whether you are for guns or not. Feminists will interpret it one way; pro dark humor groups another. As for me, I thought of gun safety and clung to the fact that he laid the pistol down with a cocked hammer. (If i recall correctly.)

I just thought even if it was playfull to carry a real gun around a house where theres kids and treat it like it was a plaything was stupid specially as a sniper he should of known better

reply

Those kids are too young to realize what a real gun is, I'm sure in time he would have taught them how to hunt and fish and respect guns and other people. We have a new president now this culture you will soon change.

reply

ya think? Obama wanted rid of guns and where did it get him? and I still believe its careless to use a gun as a toy when you have children in the house. if for example he had your your attitude he might of thought the same as you 'oh they don't know what a gun is so its ok for me to carry it around like a toy' then he could go out one day leave it in a drawer beside his bed incase theres intruders the kids get theyre hands on it and *beep* happens please don't tell me that kinda thing doesn't go on because you hear about it all the time on tv.

reply

Yeah and the same thing can be said about drugs and California, it's a parent's responsibility and I would lose a lot of sleep about it cuz you'll be an adult one day too and you have kids and then you can learn how to teach responsibilities. I've got a 17 year old is out hunting right now and I got A9 year old that knows exactly how to clean every gun. I think the problem is that you're scared again then the best thing you can do is jump in and learn about them. And quit being scared of everything in your life.

reply

sorry full but I don't believe in people having guns at home theres to many trigger happy people that go on the rampage when something pisses them off or children getting theyre hands on them because the parents cant be assed keeping them safe and acting stupid with them

reply

and just for the record full I'm a 43 year old man I don't know why you assume I'm a kid because I don't have the same opinion as you

reply

Really, I found him hugely easy to empathise with, I could really identify with him. The fake baby was something that happened on the day, both the real ones failed to show.

The scene with the gun was rather disturbing, you'd think an expert like Kyle would never break the first rule of firearms but maybe it wasn't a real pistol?

reply

ok I didn't know the real babies refused to show but why not just have the fake baby in its crib in background so it wasn't as obvious that it was fake and I respect your opinion about empathising with him well just have to agree to disagree on that one I just found him to be cold and maybe I could have warmed to him more if we got to know him better before he enlisted

reply

Well it was a movie and it might have been bad acting, but here in Texas we have a different culture, we hunt we fish and we take care of our moms and dads and we love our kids and say grace everyday. im in Houston the same city where Marcus Luttrell lives and Chris Kyle lived up in Fort Worth in Midlothian. It is my right to carry a gun, given to me by the FBI and Homeland Security and I chose to exercise those rights and in Houston, odds are eventually you will have to exercise those rights and if someone tries to harm my family or me, I will kill them dead where they stand. My Texas

Do tell us anything he has been proven to lie about?

The scene when he pulls the gun on his wife is foreplay. Role playing rape fantasy. That scene made me hard as a rock. Americans have very weird sexuality. Small dicks big guns.

She has a kind of psychiatric cabaret. Very good. There was something about Suez.
