surprisingly good
I went to see this film simply because there was nothing else I haven't already seen and wanted to. I was so surprised! The acting was excellent, the story was good and never ceased to surprise me. Very good fun.

shareI saw it on an international flight and was also quite impressed with it. Very witty fast-paced, dialogue driven film. Like one of the reviewers, I was also reminded of Carnage quite a bit.
shareI actually think Carnage was inspired by this, since Le Prenom is taken from a theatre show that was playing with great success before Carnage.
shareYes it is surprisingly good. I saw it only lately and was quite swept away... best stomach-killing laughs I had from movies for a long time. This is easily in the top category with classics like le diner de cons (which also was movie version of the original play which turned out a great success), un air de famille, les visiteurs... French comedy at its best!
shareI liked it a lot. I think the similarities with Carnage are only in the genre: they're both "living room dramas" or "chamber dramas" and they involve an everyday circumstance getting out of hand. They're also both based on (french-speaking) plays.
However, these two are very different in what they show: the "name" is ultimately a bonding process, where an already close-knit group of friends gets to discover more about each-other, to realize that behind their usual banter lie deeper thoughts about each-other and to finally externalise these thoughts, leading to some sort of catharsis. "Carnage" on the other hand is, I think, a more general comment about the human condition and how, if see past the formalities and "good manners", we're not much different than our cousins the apes.

Agreed. Excellent acting. Perfect execution. Well written.
